The Kansas State women's cross country team finished 6th overall against tough competition on Saturday at the Big 12 Championships in Stillwater, Okla. K-State nearly finished ahead of nationally ranked Texas, but finished 19 points behind. The Wildcats were paced by Senior Sydney Messick who finished 15th overall with a time of 20:49.85.

Head coach Michael Smith was happy with how his team performed. "We ran well today. We met expectations and they ran their guts out."

The Wildcats got a boost from sophomore Martina Tresch who finished 23rd with a time of 21:07.68 and junior Boglarka Bozzay who crossed the finish line in 28th place in a time 21:26.66.

"We are a good team in a great conference. We are getting closer to the team that we want to be. We just need to try and get better in the next two weeks" said Smith.

The men's team finished 12th overall. Junior Phillip Banowetz led the charge for the Wildcats finishing 65th with a time of 26:39.57.

K-State returns to action in two weeks as they prepare for the Midwest Region Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on November 13.
