MANHATTAN, Kan. - Senior Sydney Messick was named to the USTFCCCA Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team on Tuesday for her efforts on the course and in the classroom. Messick was one of 99 female student-athletes to garner this honor for the 2010 season.

The senior ended her cross country career finishing 57th overall at the NCAA Cross Country Championship and led K-State to a 25th place finish. She also ran her way to a 15th-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional to help the Wildcats finish fifth and earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Championship.

Messick is now the 11th Academic All-American in K-State cross country history and the first since Trisha Culbertson earned the honor in 2004. Messick is a senior majoring in dietetics and holds a cumulative 3.67 GPA. She also has received Academic All-Big 12 honors the last two seasons.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have either earned USTFCCCA All-America status or finished in the top 15 or top 10 percent of his or her respective NCAA Regional Championship.
