Wildcats Head North to Griak

MANHATTAN, Kan. The Kansas State cross country teams will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., this Saturday, Sept. 23 to participate in the Roy Griak Invitational. The men’s 8K race will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the women’s 6K race at noon.

The Griak, which will feature some of the top teams in the country, should present the Wildcats with an early look at some great competition. According to head coach Michael Smith, the competition will be good for both teams to see.

“We’ll get to see some solid teams this weekend,” said Smith. “There will be seven Big 12 schools there along with a number of other great schools. We’re running everyone we have, so we’ll get to see what they can do. This will be a good test to see how we measure up against the Big 12 schools.”

The course that the Griak is run on will also serve as the Midwest Regional course that the Wildcats will see on November 11.

“The race this weekend will be the same 6K-distance that the women will run in the Regionals, but the men will run a 10K at the Regionals instead of the 8K that they’ll run this Saturday,” said Smith. “I think that being familiar with the course will help us come Regional time.”

Results from the Roy Griak Invitational will be posted at www.k-statesports.com as soon as they become available.
