Galvan Named Big 12 Runner of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. - K-State Cross Country senior Laura Galvan was named Big 12 Runner of the Week for her top-five finish this past Saturday at the Big Ten Preview in Iowa City, Iowa. Competing against the No. 1 women's team in the country, Michigan, among others, Galvan finished fifth out of a field of 71 runners.

For Galvan, her time of 21:25.77 ensured her first weekly accolade of the season and the third overall of her career. Last season saw the product of Guanajuato, Mexico, win the award on two occasions - once for her first-place showing at the J.K. Gold Classic Duals and again, after finishing second at the Woody Greeno Invitational.

She becomes only the third Wildcat cross country runner, and first since Beverly Ramos in 2009, to be awarded Runner of the Week three times in her career.

Joining Galvan as Big 12 Runner of the Week was Texas freshman Robert Uhr, who finished first at the UTSA Ricardo Romo Classic.

Galvan will continue the strong start to her senior campaign as she will lead the Wildcats at the Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Oct. 4. For more information, visit www.k-statesports.com.
