MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State junior Laura Galvan was named Big 12 Runner of the Week for the second time this season. Galvan earned the award with a second-place finish (21:24) this past Saturday at the Woody Greeno Invitational.

Galvan, who received the accolade for the first time for her first-place performance at the J.K. Gold Classic Duals, was very joyous about winning the award for the second time.

"I am very excited, it feels good to win this award twice," Galvan said. "It is motivation to do well in my next meet and get more of these kinds of awards."

Head Coach Michael Smith was equally as pleased for Galvan.

"I am happy for Laura," Smith said. "The Big 12 is a great cross-country conference. We have some of the best runners and teams in the NCAA year in and year out. For Laura to be considered one of the Big 12's top runners is a great honor for her and for our program."

This is the first time since 2008 that a K-State runner has won Runner of the Week honors twice in the same season. In 2008, Beverly Ramos received the award twice after her performances in the Wichita State Gold Classic and the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.

Joining Galvan as Big 12 Runner of the Week is Oklahoma sophomore Eric Graf, who finished third at the Missouri Southern Stampede.

K-State will have a week off before continuing action Oct. 5 as they travel to Lawrence, Kan., for the Rim Rock Invitational.
