MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State junior outfielder Jared King has been named a Second Team All-American by Perfect Game, the organization announced Monday.

King was one of just two Big 12 players to earn All-America accolades from Perfect Game, joining Texas relief pitcher Corey Knebel. It was the first career preseason All-America designation for King, who was a Second Team All-Big 12 and First Team American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Midwest Region selection following the 2012 season.

The regular-season Big 12 batting champion at .378, King led the team with 15 doubles while also carding seven home runs and 47 RBI. He finished the year in the top 10 of the Big 12 in 10 categories, including top-five marks in average (second; .377), slugging percentage (third; .577), total bases (third; 127), hits (fourth; 83) and on-base percentage (fifth; .453).

King also led the Wildcats in multi-hit games (27) and multi-RBI games (12) last season, marks that ranked third and ninth in the Big 12, respectively. He enters his junior campaign with a.346 career batting average – just eight points shy of entering the school’s top-10 list – while his .558 slugging percentage is one point away from the top 10.

A 2012 First Team Academic All-Big 12 performer, King was also a Freshman All-American, Second Team All-Big 12 pick and member of the Big 12 All-Freshman team in 2011.

Kansas State opens the 2013 campaign February 15-17, by taking on High Point, The Citadel and George Mason as part of The Citadel Memorial Challenge in Charleston, S.C.
