Wildcats Tabbed No. 18 in NCBWA Preseason Poll

MANHATTAN, Kan. - The K-State baseball team continued its ascent in preseason polls as the Wildcats have garnered a No. 18 ranking in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division I preseason poll. It is the first time since the NCBWA released its first preseason poll in 1998 that the Wildcats have been ranked among the top 25.

The Wildcats have been ranked in an unprecedented five preseason polls entering the 2014 season. K-State was ranked as high as No. 21 in the USA Today Coaches' Preseason Poll before the recent NCBWA ranking. The Wildcats have also been ranked No. 22 by Baseball America and Perfect Game as well as No. 28 by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

After winning the Big 12 title and reaching the NCAA Super Regional round, K-State finished No. 14 in the NCBWA's final poll of the 2013 season.

Cal State Fullerton was ranked No. 1 in the NCBWA preseason poll. Other Big 12 teams in the top 35 include Oklahoma State (No. 19), TCU (No. 22), Texas (No. 25) and Oklahoma (No. 28).

The NCBWA poll voters come from 44 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. This current poll has representation by nine different conferences among the baseball-playing schools in the 2014 NCAA Division I ranks.

K-State, which returns 19 letterwinners from last year's squad, starts its season on Friday, Feb. 14 at Cal Poly. The Wildcats will begin the home portion of their schedule on Friday, Feb. 28 at 3 pm against Milwaukee.
