Jurica, Martini Earn Preseason Honors

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State's Carter Jurica and Nick Martini were named to the Rivals.com Preseason All-Big 12 baseball team, the organization has announced.

It is the first preseason honor for both Jurica and Martini, who earned multiple distinctions following the Wildcats' historic 2009 season.

Last year as a sophomore, Jurica was second on the team with a .353 (84-for-238) average, while he collected 15 doubles, three triples, four home runs and 46 RBI to go along with 23 stolen bases. His 84 hits tied for the seventh-most in school history, including 62 singles, which was tied for second. He also scored 61 runs on the season, which was tied for seventh in the school record books.

Jurica, who started all 62 games, was fourth in the Big 12 last season in stolen bases, sixth in runs scored, seventh in hits and tied for eighth in average. He earned second team All-Big 12 accolades following the regular season, while he was also a first team Academic All-Big 12 selection.

As a freshman, Martini was the Wildcats' third-leading hitter at .336 (78-for-232) with a team-leading 17 doubles, four home runs, 50 RBI and 19 stolen bases. He set K-State freshman records for runs scored (54) and hits, while he was fifth in the Big 12 last season in both doubles and stolen bases.

For his efforts, the Crystal Lake, Ill., product earned Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American honors, as well as being named an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection and a member of the All-Houston (Rice) Regional team.

Rivals.com College Baseball, headed by national college baseball writer Kendall Rogers, also placed Kansas State fifth in its preseason Big 12 poll following a 43-18-1 season that saw the Wildcats earn their first NCAA Regional bid.
