Edwards Garners Fourth Preseason Honor

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State senior pitcher Daniel Edwards received his second preseason honor by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and fourth overall as the organization announced its preseason watch list for the 2008 NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award.

Edwards was one of 40 players to be named to the watch list, including one of just four from the Big 12 Conference. Baylor’s Nick Cassavechia, Missouri’s Kyle Gibson and Texas A&M’s Kyle Thebeau were also added to the list.

The distinction is Edwards’ fourth of the preseason, having already been named to the Preseason PING! All-American team, NCBWA All-America third team and the 2008 Brooks Wallace Award watch list.

Edwards returns for his senior campaign after an outstanding junior season where he collected a single-season school record tying 11 saves, which tied for second in the Big 12 and 23rd nationally in 2007. The Kingwood, Texas, native earned a perfect 3-0 record, tallied a 2.27 ERA and struck out 49 batters in just 35.2 innings while holding opponents to a team-low .173 batting average.

Kansas State begins the 2008 season next week with a four-game stretch starting Friday, Feb. 22, at California and Santa Clara.
