After last weekend's Big 12/Pac-12 Challenge in Arizona, K-State will continue its run of facing Pac-12 opponents as the Wildcats will travel to Berkeley, California to take on Cal at Evans Diamond from Saturday through Monday ... K-State was slated to kick off its home schedule with a series vs. Eastern Illinois Friday-Sunday, but due to forecasts of snow and below-freezing temperatures in Manhattan, the Wildcats were forced to cancel its home-opening series for the second year in a row ... K-State went 2-2 against the Pac-12 last weekend in Surprise and Mesa, Arizona, including a 12-3 win over Washington State to end the weekend ... Three of K-State's four games in Arizona were decided by a walk-off hit, with the Wildcats coming away victorious against Utah on Thursday (3-2) and in defeat against Oregon State (10-9) and Washington (6-5, 10 innings) on Friday and Saturday, respectively ... Cal, which has played all eight of its games in the Bay Area, has won four of its last five games, a stretch that includes taking three out of four vs. UC Irvine last weekend at Evans Diamond.

For the second straight season, K-State has had its home-opening series canceled ... In addition to this year's cancellation of a 3-game set against Eastern Illinois, the Wildcats' 2014 home opener against Milwaukee was canceled due to freezing temperatures and snow ... K-State was forced to travel to Abilene, Texas last year in place of its canceled series vs. Milwaukee, where it played 3 games (3-0 record) ... K-State is set to play its first 11 games of a season away from home for the third time in the last 6 years and fourth in the last 9 (2007, 2010, 2014, 2015) ... From February 12-23, K-State traveled a total of about 5,227 miles ... This weekend's trip to Berkeley will add about 3,340 miles to that travel ledger (season total: 8,567 miles).

After 26 strikeouts over last weekend's four games, the K-State pitching staff continues to rank among the Big 12 leaders in punchouts so far in this young 2015 season ... The Wildcats enter this week second in the Big 12 with 61 strikeouts (First: Oklahoma, 85) ... RHP Nate Griep (13) and RHP Corey Fischer (11) are tied for second and fifth, respectively, among Big 12 pitchers ... RHP Colton Kalmus and RHP Brandon Erickson lie just outside the Big 12's top-10 with 8 strikeouts apiece ... K-State is also third in the Big 12 (72nd in Division I) with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.65 K/BB ... The Wildcats have 5 or more strikeouts in each of their first 8 games as well as 8 or more in 5 games ... For all of 2014, K-State had 8 or more strikeouts in 8 games ... Meanwhile, K-State has walked 2 or less in 4 games.

3B Carter Yagi turned in an impressive weekend at the Big 12/Pac-12 Challenge, hitting .500 (8-for-16) with 4 RBIs and 8 runs scored over the 4 games ... Yagi had a multi-hit effort in each of the last 3 games, including a 3-hit effort on Feb. 21 vs. Washington ... Yagi, who is tied with Shane Conlon for the team-lead in multi-hit games this season with 3, has already halfway reached his 2014 total of 6 multi-hit games ... Yagi is the owner of a 5-game hitting streak entering the Cal series, which is tied for the third-longest on the Wildcats (Steve Serratore, 7 games) ... Yagi has reached base safely in each of K-State's first 8 games, one of 4 Wildcats to do that ... Yagi's career-long on-base streak is 11 games (Feb. 20-March 15, 2014) ... He has also scored a run in 5 consecutive games, giving him 10 runs this season (T-2nd in Big 12 and 17th in Division I).

While Yagi is the owner of a 5-game hitting streak and 8-game on-base streak, a pair of Wildcats have carried over on-base streaks from last season and reached double-figures ... OF Clayton Dalrymple has reached base safely in 7 straight games to start 2015, extending his active on-base streak to 15 games ... OF Max Brown has an active on-base streak of 14 games after he has joined Shane Conlon, Steve Serratore and Carter Yagi as the 4 Wildcats who have reached base safely in all 8 games this season ... Last weekend in Arizona, Dalrymple posted a .462 OBP - despite hitting .222 - after he tallied 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 hit by pitches in his 13 plate appearances.

1B Shane Conlon is the owner of a 6-game hitting streak, batting .346 (9-for-26) with a double, a triple and 6 RBIs over the stretch ... The redshirt senior has a multi-hit effort in 3 of the 6 games during the streak ... He also has an RBI in 5 straight games, helping him lead the Wildcats with 6 RBIs this season ... Conlon is hitting .412 (7-for-17) with runners on base, including .455 (5-for-11) with runners in scoring position.

The K-State offense has a double-digit hit total in its last 3 games, batting .330 (35-for-106) since Feb. 20 ... The Wildcats had a season-high 13 hits against Oregon State on Feb. 20 and followed that up with 10 on Feb. 21 vs. Washington and 12 on Feb. 22 vs. Washington State ... Of the team's 36 hits over the last 3 games, 9 are for extra bases ... In their first 5 games of the season, the Wildcats had 34 hits and 4 extra-base hits.

Of its eight games so far this season, K-State has seen four of its contests decided by one-run ... The Wildcats are 2-2 in one-run games this year ... Last year, the Wildcats were 4-7 in one-run games and did not win its first one-run contest until their 12th overall game of the year (IOWA, 3-2, on March 7).

In the last meeting between the Wildcats and Golden Bears on Feb. 27, 2011, K-State evened the score at 1-1 after the first inning but No. 17 Cal went on to score 7 unanswered runs to take an 8-1 victory in Myrtle Beach, S.C. ... K-State's only previous visit to Cal occurred in the 2008 season opener on Feb. 22 as the Cats fell to the Golden Bears, 5-1 ... The first 2 meetings of the all-time series took place in Manhattan on May 12-13, 2001 as K-State lost 6-4 and 16-10 ... K-State head coach Brad Hill is 0-2 against Cal.

This weekend's group of three starters have a combined ERA of 1.75 (7er, 36.0ip) this season ... Sunday's starter, Colton Kalmus, leads the group with a 0.90 ERA while Corey Fischer (1.54) and Nate Griep (2.51) also have ERAs of 2.51 or lower ... Griep is coming off a start in which he registered his second-career complete game, holding Utah to 2 runs and striking out 6 while walking none ... Griep has thrown 10 perfect innings among his total 14 1/3 innings logged this year ... Kalmus has appeared in 2 games this season, including his start last weekend vs. Washington ... The redshirt sophomore is 3-0 with a 2.08 ERA (5er, 21.2ip) in 6 career starts ... Fischer, after 5 strikeouts in his last outing on Feb. 22 vs. Washington State, is tied for fifth in the Big 12 with 11 strikeouts this season ... The junior also earned his first career win with his first career quality start against the Cougars this past Sunday.
