MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State senior Dan Klein is one of 43 catchers nationally named to the Johnny Bench Award watch list, presented annually to the top Division I catcher, the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission has announced.

Klein was one of just two Big 12 catchers on the list, joining Texas Tech's Bo Altobelli. A native of Overland Park, Kan., Klein's honor marked the second straight year a K-State catcher has been placed on the initial watch list.

This season, Klein has thrown out four players on the base paths in seven games played after totaling 19 a year ago. Offensively, Klein is 5-for-23 with a double and five RBI, including four two-out RBI.

A list of semifinalists for the Johnny Bench Award will be announced on May 16 before the field is trimmed to three finalists on June 4. The finalists will travel to Wichita, Kan., for a June 28 presentation where the winner will be announced.

Kansas State hosts Hartford for a four-game series, Friday through Sunday, at Tointon Family Stadium. The series begins with a 3 p.m., first pitch on Friday before a Saturday double-header beginning at 12 p.m. Sunday's series finale is set for 11 a.m.
