Rooke Named to Midseason Stopper List

MANHATTAN, Kan. Thomas Rooke was one of 45 relief pitchers, including four in the Big 12, to be named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award Midseason Watch List, the organization announced Thursday.

Rooke holds a 4-0 record with two saves this season, while he is third on the team with a 2.76 ERA in 32.2 innings of work. The left-hander has struck out 40 batters, while issuing just five walks.

The southpaw has been even better in his last three appearances, going 1-0 with two saves, throwing 4.2 scoreless innings with two hits and four strikeouts in that span.

Rooke, a native of Spring, Texas, was also named to the preseason watch list for the award and is joined on the midseason version by Big 12 pitchers Paul Smyth (Kansas), Travis Starling (Texas A&M) and Austin Wood (Texas) from the Big 12.

No. 21 Kansas State continues play this weekend as the Wildcats host Missouri for a three-game series, beginning 6:30 p.m. Friday at Tointon Family Stadium.
