Jason King Named Academic All-District

Jason King earned his second first team academic all-district honor

May 6, 2011

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State junior third baseman Jason King was one of 11 players named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced. It is the second time King has earned first-team honors in his career.

A marketing major who holds a 3.96 GPA, King is hitting .275 with a team-leading eight home runs and 40 RBI in 2011. The Dublin, Ohio, product is tied for second in the Big 12 in home runs and is third in RBI. He also ranks in the conference’s top 10 in three other categories as he is tied for fifth in triples (4), seventh in slugging percentage (.521) and tied for eighth in total bases (87).

King was a first team Academic All-District honoree as a sophomore in 2009 before an injury sidelined him for all of 2010. He broke the school record with 18 sacrifice flies in his career, while he has eight this season to tie for second in the K-State record books. He also sits just outside the school’s top 10 in career extra-base hits, triples, games started, at-bats, doubles and home runs.

King’s distinction marks the fifth-straight season Kansas State has had a first team Academic All-District honoree. Brett Scott earned the nod in both 2007 and 2008, while he went on to claim Academic All-American honors in 2008. King and Thomas Rooke were honored in 2009 before Carter Jurica was selected in 2010.

The first team Academic All-District accolade now qualifies King for Academic All-America consideration in upcoming voting by CoSIDA members. In order to be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America honors, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.00 scale and participate in at least 50 percent of his team’s games. Freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible.

Kansas State begins a three-game Big 12 series against Missouri on Friday at Tointon Family Stadium. First pitch for Friday’s game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., and will be broadcast throughout the state of Kansas on Cox’s Kansas 22 and in the Kansas City area on MetroSports.

To order tickets, fans can call the K-State Athletics Ticket office at 1-800-221-CATS or log on to www.k-statesports.com/tickets. The ticket windows at Tointon Family Stadium open one hour prior to first pitch.
