Jurica Named Academic All-District

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State junior shortstop Carter Jurica was one of 10 players named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII First Team. Jurica's distinction marks the fourth-straight season Kansas State has placed at least one player on the list.

Jurica, who holds a 3.44 GPA in marketing, holds a .354 batting average and leads the Wildcats with seven home runs and a Big 12-best 58 RBI. The Katy, Texas, product, has also stolen 17 bases this season to tie for third in the conference.

The junior has also moved into the top 10 in school history in several career marks, including sacrifice flies (12), hit-by-pitch (20) and stolen bases (49).

The first team district honor now qualifies Jurica for Academic All-America consideration in upcoming voting by CoSIDA members. In order to be eligible for Academic All-District and All-America honors, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.00 scale and participate in at least 50 percent of his team's games. Freshmen and first-year transfers are not eligible.

Kansas State begins a three-game Big 12 series against No. 1 Texas Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Tointon Family Stadium. The Friday-night contest can be heard on the K-State Sports Network, while Saturday's 2:30 p.m. game will be aired on Fox Sports Kansas City and Fox College Sports.
