Game Times Set for Big 12 Championship

MANHATTAN, Kan. Game times for Kansas State’s three games of Pool 2 play in the 2008 Big 12 Championship have been set as the conference office announced the tournament lineup Sunday evening.


Kansas State, the No. 7 seed in the championship, will travel to Bricktown Ballpark for the second-consecutive season. It marks the first time in school history Kansas State will travel to the Big 12 Tournament in back-to-back years after its appearance in 2007.


The Wildcats begin play against No. 2 seed Oklahoma State at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening. K-State took the season series, two-games-to-one, from the Cowboys in late March as the Cats won Friday-evening’s game, 4-3, before dropped game two, 9-4. The Cats then came back and, behind a complete-game shutout by Lance Hoge, took the series with a 4-0 Sunday win.


Following a day off on Thursday, the Kansas State will play in its second game of the tournament at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon against No. 3 Nebraska. The Huskers swept the regular-season series against K-State in mid March by scores of 2-1 and 11-4 on Friday and Saturday, and also won an 11-inning affair 5-3 on Sunday.


The last game of pool play will be against Baylor at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats and Bears tied for sixth in the conference standings, but Baylor won the mid-April series two-to-one to capture the No. 6 seed. Brad Hutt was stellar on the mound for Kansas State during the Friday-night Baylor game, which Kansas State won, 6-1. However, the Bears came back with wins on Saturday and Sunday by counts of to take the series.


Live game action and postgame press conferences from the 2008 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship will be video streamed for free on the Big 12 Conference’s official web site,, for the second year in a row. Audio from the web cast will also be broadcast on XM Radio (Channel 241).


The winners of each pool will meet in the championship game, which will be televised live on FSN beginning at 1 p.m.
