2009 Big 12 Championship Schedule Set

LAWRENCE, Kan. Game times for Kansas State’s three games of Pool 1 play in the 2009 Big 12 Championship have been set as the conference office announced the tournament lineup Sunday evening.

Kansas State, the No. 4 seed in the championship, will travel to Bricktown Ballpark for the third-consecutive season after appearing as the No. 8 seed in 2007 and the No. 7 seed in 2008.

The Wildcats begin play against No. 5 seed Kansas at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. The contest marks the fourth-straight game between the two schools as Kansas State finished the regular season against the Jayhawks. KU took the season series, two-games-to-one, from the Wildcats as the Cats won Friday-evening’s game, 4-1, before dropped games two and three by scores of 9-3 and 17-7, respectively.

The Cats will be back in action the following day as they face No. 8 seed Baylor at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The contest marks the second-straight year the two teams will meet in Oklahoma City. The Bears won the regular-season series, two-games-to-one, in Waco, Texas, in late March. A.J. Morris threw a complete game to guide Kansas State to a Friday-night victory, but Baylor came back to win games two and three to take the series.

In a rematch of the 2008 Big 12 Championship title game, Kansas State will face regular-season champion Texas at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Earlier this season, the Cats traveled to Austin to face the Longhorns and turned in one of its best conference series of the season. Morris tallied his second complete game in conference action in the Friday-night game to break the school’s single-season record for victories. In the second game of the series, the Wildcats and Longhorns battled to a 2-2 tie through nine before K-State won the game in extra innings, 5-4. The heavily contested series continued on Sunday as the two teams battled to a 6-6 tie.
