Fisher Named Semifinalist for Breakout Award

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Kansas State shortstop Austin Fisher was one of 46 players nationally to be named a semifinalist for the Gregg Olsen Breakout Player of the Year Award. Fisher is one of three Big 12 players up for the award, which is in its inaugural season and named after former Auburn pitcher, Gregg Olsen.

A year after hitting .295 with a double and two RBI in 44 at-bats, Fisher has exploded during his sophomore campaign as he enters play Friday hitting .356 with 18 doubles, three triples, two home runs and 34 RBI as the everyday starter. A product of Olathe, Kan., Fisher was named an All-Big 12 First Team performer and is also a candidate for the Brooks Wallace Award as the nation's top shortstop.

Finalists for the Gregg Olsen Breakout Player of the Year Award will be announced on Monday, June 3, in conjunction with the conclusion of NCAA Regional play, while the winner will be named during the College World Series.

Top-seeded Kansas State continues play at the 2013 Phillip 66 Big 12 Championship with a 12:30 p.m., contest Friday against No. 5-seed Baylor. The game will be aired on the K-State Sports Network and shown to a national audience on Fox College Sports Central.
