Kansas State Earns Second-Straight NCAA Bid

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State earned its second-straight NCAA Regional bid Monday as the NCAA Division I Baseball Selection Committee announced the 64-team field. The Wildcats are the No. 3 seed at the Fayetteville Regional, hosted by Arkansas, at Baum Stadium.

"This is all about our seniors," head coach Brad Hill said. "Adam Muenster and Daniel Dellasega came up huge as team leaders, even though Muenster was playing a new position and Dellasega was the No. 1 catcher for the first time in his career. Ryan Daniel is also a big part of this even though he was injured for part of the season. He was the biggest cheerleader on our bench during a time that we needed him to be."

Arkansas is the No. 1 seed and the host team for the Fayetteville Regional. Joining K-State and Arkansas at Baum Stadium is No. 2 seed Washington State of the Pac-10 and No. 4 seed Grambling, which won the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship.

Arkansas (40-17) is hosting its fifth regional and its fourth since 2004. The Razorbacks finished second in the SEC Western Division with a conference record of 18-12.

K-State will take on Washington State (34-20) on the opening day of the Fayetteville Regional. The Cougars, who finished third in the Pac-10 race at 15-12, are also making their second-straight trip to the NCAA Regional and 16th overall appearance.

Grambling (22-30) won the SWAC championship for the first time since 1985 on Sunday as the Tigers defeated Alcorn State, 15-2.

Kansas State holds a 2-1 record against Washington State, while Arkansas is 29-18 all-time against the Wildcats. K-State has never met Grambling on the diamond.

The Wildcats were the only team from the state of Kansas to advance to NCAA play and one of five Big 12 teams. Other conference schools that earned a bid into postseason play were Texas (No. 1 seed; Austin Regional), Oklahoma (No. 1 Seed; Norman Regional), Baylor (No. 2 seed; Fort Worth Regional) and Texas A&M (No. 2 seed; Miami Regional).
