MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former Kansas State right-handed pitcher Evan Marshall was named a Southern League (Double A) All-Star on Thursday in just his second season as a professional.

A fourth-round draft selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, Marshall is one of 12 pitchers named an All-Star for the South Division, which will take on the North Division All-Stars on June 19, at Smokies Park in Kodak, Tenn.

Marshall, who progressed quickly last season through three different levels of the minor leagues, is second in the Southern League with 12 saves in his 20 appearances this year for the Mobile BayBears. The right-hander holds a 2-1 record and a 2.11 ERA in 21.1 innings of work. Prior to the 2012 campaign, ranked Marshall as the 10th-best prospect in the Diamondbacks' organization.

A product of Sunnyvale, Calif., Marshall was one of the top relief pitchers at K-State as he is second in school history with 85 appearances, including 30 during the 2011 campaign. Over a span of 61.0 innings in 2011, Marshall surrendered just 11 earned runs for a 1.62 ERA, which ranks third in school history and was the best mark by a Wildcat since 1970.
