MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the summer, k-statesports.com takes look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.
East Texas PumpJacks
Outfielder Mitch Meyer has begun his summer on a high note, going 3-for-7 with two home runs and five RBI in two games for the East Texas PumpJacks of the Texas Collegiate League… He went 1-for-3 Saturday against Woodlands before hitting a pair of homers against the Strykers on Sunday… East Texas is 10-12 to begin the summer.
Glens Falls Golden Eagles
Future sophomore Jake Matthys allowed an unearned in five innings during a start on Sunday… The right-hander took a no decision after allowing only one hit with a walk and seven strikeouts… Austin Fisher is slated to begin play with the Golden Eagles later this summer.
Junction City Brigade
Three Wildcats – Landon Busch, Kyle Speer and Jordan Witcig – are playing for the Junction City Brigade along with incoming freshman Tanner DeVinny… Junction City is 9-5 this summer, but updated statistics are unavailable.
Infielder RJ Santigate, along with pitchers Blake McFadden and Nate Williams, are playing for the Mat-Su Miners of the Alaska Baseball League… Santigate is 0-for-5 with four walks and two runs scored in his first two games of the summer… McFadden has allowed a run on two hits in 0.1 innings, while Williams has yet to pitch… The Miners are in second place in the ABL with a 6-3 record.
North Central Kansas Knights
Outfielder Clayton Dalrymple has played in 10 games for the North Central Kansas Knights… The future sophomore is hitting .296 (8-for-27) with one double, one RBI and eight runs scored… He picked up a pair of two-hit games last week, going 2-for-4 with a double at Newton on Tuesday and 2-for-2 with a RBI Thursday against Hutchinson… The Knights are 6-18 this summer.
Infielder Ross Kivett is slated to play for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League later this summer.
Topeka Golden Giants
Infielder Jake Wodtke leads the Topeka Golden Giants with a .417 batting average, going 20-for-48 with four doubles, one homer and seven RBI in 14 games… Topeka holds a 20-9 record, including a 14-10 mark in the Walter Johnson Baseball League the pace the north division.
Carlos Torres (MLB: New York NL): Torres began the 2013 season pitching for Triple A Las Vegas before being called up by the New York Mets on June 16… The right-hander, who pitched for the Colorado Rockies last season, is 0-1 with a 1.69 ERA in 5.1 innings for the Mets, allowing just one run on two hits with one walk and six strikeouts… Torres, a 15th-round pick of the White Sox in 2004, began his stint with the Mets by registering three scoreless appearances, but he suffered a loss at Philadelphia on Saturday after surrendering a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth… The Mets are fourth in the National League East Division with a 30-42 record… Torres was 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts for the Las Vegas 51’s prior to begin called up… He allowed 31 earned runs in 71.2 innings with 19 walks and 67 strikeouts while tossing two complete games and one shutout.

Jared Goedert (Triple A: Indianapolis/Pittsburgh): Signed to a minor league deal by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the offseason, Goedert is hitting .242 with 10 doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 40 RBI for Triple A Indianapolis… A ninth-round selection by Cleveland in 2006, Goedert doubled twice Friday at Charlotte before driving in three runs against the Knights on Saturday… Indianapolis leads the International League West Division by 13.5 games with a 51-27 record.

Carter Jurica (Triple A: Fresno/San Francisco): Jurica, a third-round pick by San Francisco in 2010, jumped from High A to Triple A prior to this year and has not missed a beat as he is hitting .278 with 13 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 22 RBI in 67 games… The shortstop went 3-for-4 on June 13 against Tucson, while he had two-hit games on June 15 against Salt Lake City and June 18 at Reno… Fresno holds a 36-42 record.

Evan Marshall (Triple A: Reno/Arizona): A fourth-round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, Marshall has pitched the entire 2013 season for Triple A Reno… The right-handed reliever holds a 2-5 record and a 5.04 ERA with two saves… He has allowed 17 earned runs on 45 hits with 19 walks and 29 strikeouts in 30.1 innings… Marshall earned the win last Tuesday against Fresno when he tossed 1.2 scoreless innings with two walks and two strikeouts… The Aces are 31-47 this year.

Nate Tenbrink (Triple A: Tacoma/Seattle): Playing in Triple A for the first time in his career, Tenbrink has been with Tacoma the entirety of the 2013 season… A seventh-round draft pick in 2008 by Seattle, Tenbrink is hitting .230 with 11 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 28 RBI in 67 games… The outfielder carded consecutive two-hit games on June 13 and 14 at Las Vegas, including a double, a homer and three RBI in the first contest… He also doubled and drove in a run last Thursday at Colorado Springs… The Rainers lead the Pacific Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League by 2.5 games with a 45-33 record.

Justin Bloxom (Double A: Harrisburg/Washington): Bloxom, a 2009 draft pick by Washington, is playing for Double A Harrisburg, the team in which he played for to complete the 2012 season… In 68 games, the first baseman is hitting .233 with 10 doubles, one triple, five homers and 38 RBI… He registered a two-hit game against New Britain on June 14, while he homered and drove in two runs last Tuesday at Bowie… Harrisburg paces the Eastern Division of the Eastern League at 40-35.

Kyle Hunter (Double A: Jackson/Seattle): A 31st-round draft pick of Seattle in 2011, Hunter pitched in eight games for High A High Desert before being promoted to Double A Jackson… In 18 games for the Generals, the left-hander is 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA, allowing just three runs with five walks and 13 strikeouts in 23 innings… He earned a win on June 6 at Tennessee when he allowed a run on four hits with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings and has tossed six scoreless innings since that outing… Jackson finished the first half of the season in fourth place in the Southern League North Division at 29-37 and has begun the second half with a 3-2 record… Hunter went 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight outings for High Desert.

A.J. Morris (Double A: Tennessee/Chicago NL): Morris, a 2009 draft choice by Washington, has made 18 appearances, including four starts, for Double A Tennessee of the Southern League… The right-hander holds a 2-0 record and a 4.24 ERA, allowing 19 earned runs on 31 hits with 24 walks and 36 strikeouts in 40.1 innings… In his four starts, which spans 18.2 innings, Morris has allowed just five runs and struck out 15 batters… The Smokies finished the first half of the season in third place in the Southern League North Division with a 34-35 record and are 2-3 to start the second half.

James Allen (High A: Bakersfield/Cincinnati): A seventh-round selection in 2011, Allen has started 15 games for High A Bakersfield after ending the 2012 season on the Triple A Louisville roster… The right-hander is 5-5 with a 4.02 ERA, allowing 38 earned runs with 29 walks and 43 strikeouts in 85 innings… He earned the win at Modesto on June 14 when he allowed just two runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts in seven innings… In his last five starts, Allen is 3-0 as his last loss was May 24 against Stockton… Bakersfield finished the first half of the season with a 29-41 record and is 1-3 to start the second half.

Wade Hinkle (Low A: Burlington/Los Angeles AL): Hinkle, a 27th-round selection by the Los Angeles Angels this year, has played the entire 2013 season for the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League… In 63 games, the first baseman is hitting .270 with 18 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 36 RBI… Hinkle has two three-hit games in his last 10 contests, going 3-for-5 with a double, one triple and a RBI on June 15 against Quad Cities, while he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored against Clinton last Thursday… Burlington finished the first half of the season with a 26-39 record, while the Bees are 1-3 to start the second half.

Jason King (Low A: West Michigan/Detroit): King, a fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2011, has played for both High A Lakeland and Low A West Michigan this season… He began the year in Lakeland, hitting .135 with five doubles, three home runs and 13 RBI, while he is hitting .185 with a double, one home run and seven RBI for West Michigan… The third baseman doubled and drove in a run last Thursday against Great Lakes… The Whitecaps finished the first half of the season in fourth place in the Midwest League Eastern Division with a 33-37 record while they are 2-2 to begin the second half.

Nick Martini (Low A: Peoria/St. Louis): A seventh-round selection of St. Louis in 2011, Martini is hitting .228 with seven doubles and 14 RBI for the Peoria Chiefs… The outfielder is riding a nine-game hitting streak, which includes three hits games at Cedar Rapids (June 14) and Beloit (June 22), while he had two hits against the Snappers on both Friday and Sunday… The Chiefs finished the first half of the season in third place in the Midwest League Eastern Division with a 38-29 record and are 1-3 during the second half.

Jared King (Class A Short Season: Brooklyn/New York NL): King, a fifth-round selection by the New York Mets this year, is 4-for-16 with a double and two RBI in his first four professional games for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A Short Season New York-Penn League… He has a hit in each contest, including a RBI double and two runs scored against Aberdeen in his first game, while he also drove in a run Sunday against Hudson Valley… The Cyclones are second in the McNamara Division with a 3-3 record.

Dan Klein (Class A Short-Season: Vancouver/Toronto): A 28th-round pick by Toronto last year, Klein is back playing for the Vancouver Canadians of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League… In seven games, the catcher is hitting .222 (4-for-18) with a double and three RBI… Klein had two hits last Monday against Spokane and registered two RBI at Salem-Keiser on Saturday… Vancouver is in second place in the north division at 6-4.

Jake Brown (Rookie: Bristol/Chicago AL): A 30th-round selection last year by the Chicago White Sox, Brown has played for both Low A Kannapolis and the Bristol White Sox of the Rookie Appalachian League… In 15 games for Kannapolis, Brown hit .316 (18-for-57) with four doubles, one triple and 12 RBI… He is 0-for-8 in two games for the Bristol White Sox, who are 1-3 to begin the season.

Joe Flattery (Rookie: GCL Tigers/Detroit): Flattery signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers following the 2013 K-State season and has been assigned to the GCL Tigers of the Rookie Gulf Coast League… The left-hander had yet to appear in a game.
