K-State Summer Baseball Update: July 1

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the summer, k-statesports.com takes look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.

East Texas PumpJacks
Outfielder Mitch Meyer has started the summer on a hot streak as he is hitting .429 (12-for-28) with a double, three home runs and 10 RBI in seven games for the East Texas PumpJacks of the Texas Collegiate League… He had a pair of three-hit games last week, going 3-for-4 with two RBI on Friday before a 3-for-5 outing with a homer and three RBI on Sunday… East Texas is 13-15 this season.

Glens Falls Golden Eagles
Future sophomore Jake Matthys did not pitch last week for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles of the Perfect Game Collegiate League… In his only start this summer on June 23, Matthys allowed an unearned in five innings, taking a no decision after allowing only one hit with a walk and seven strikeouts… Austin Fisher is slated to begin play with the Golden Eagles later this summer.

Junction City Brigade
Three Wildcats – Landon Busch, Kyle Speer and Jordan Witcig – are playing for the Junction City Brigade along with incoming freshman Tanner DeVinny… Junction City has won five in a row and six of its last 10 games, but updated statistics are unavailable.

Mat-Su Miners
Infielder RJ Santigate, along with pitchers Blake McFadden and Nate Williams, are playing for the Mat-Su Miners of the Alaska Baseball League… Santigate is 0-for-5 with four walks and two runs scored in his first two games of the summer… McFadden has allowed a run on two hits in 0.1 innings, while Williams has yet to pitch… The Miners are 9-6 this summer.

North Central Kansas Knights
Outfielder Clayton Dalrymple has played in 15 games for the North Central Kansas Knights… The future sophomore is hitting .270 (10-for-49) with two doubles, two RBI and 11 runs scored… He had a two-hit game with a double and a RBI Tuesday in the first game of a doubleheader against the Junction City Brigade… The Knights are 9-25 this summer.

Orleans Firebirds
Infielder Ross Kivett began play for the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League last week… In four games, Kivett is 0-for-15… Orleans is 7-7 this summer.

Rossville Rattlers
Sophomores-to-be Alex Bee, Levi MaVorhis and Lance Miles, along with incoming freshman Braxton Wilks, are playing for the Rossville Rattlers… As of June 26, Bee was hitting .409 (9-for-26) with a double, a homer and six RBI in seven games, while Miles was hitting .250 (8-for-32) with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI in eight games… MaVorhis was 1-0 with a 3.07 ERA in three games with just one walk and 13 strikeouts.

Topeka Golden Giants
Infielder Jake Wodtke ranks second in batting average for the Topeka Golden Giants at .382 with four doubles, one homer and seven RBI… Topeka holds a 23-13 record, including a 19-11 mark in the Walter Johnson Baseball League the pace the north division.

K-State Pros
Carlos Torres (MLB: New York NL): Torres, a right-handed reliever for the New York Mets, pitched two scoreless outing last week when he surrendered just one hit in 1.2 innings at Chicago (AL) on Tuesday before two scoreless innings with three strikeouts Saturday against Washington… A 15th-round pick of the White Sox in 2004, Torres is 0-1 with a 1.00 ERA in nine innings, allowing just one run on four hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in six games… New York is in fourth in the National League East Division at 33-45… Torres was 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts for Triple A Las Vegas called up.

Jared Goedert (Triple A: Indianapolis/Pittsburgh): A free agent signee by Pittsburgh during the offseason, Goedert had six hits last week for Triple A Indianapolis… The third baseman registered a two-hit game Thursday against Rochester and had a homer and two RBI on Friday… In 78 games, Goedert is hitting .241 with 20 doubles, one triple, nine home runs and 43 RBI… Indianapolis leads the International League West Division by 13.5 games with a 55-30 record.

Carter Jurica (Triple A: Fresno/San Francisco): A third-round pick by San Francisco in 2010, Jurica had two hits and two RBI last week for Triple A Fresno… He singled and drove in a run Monday at Tacoma and Sunday against Salt Lake City… In 72 games, the shortstop is hitting .270 with 13 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 24 RBI… The Grizzlies are 38-46.

Evan Marshall (Triple A: Reno/Arizona): Marshall, a fourth-round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, saw time in two games last week for Triple A Reno… The right-hander tossed a scoreless frame with one strikeout Monday against Tucson, while he allowed two runs in 0.1 innings Thursday at Sacramento… In 30 relief outings, Marshall is 2-5 with a 5.40 ERA, 19 walks and 30 strikeouts… The Aces are 33-51.

Nate Tenbrink (Triple A: Tacoma/Seattle): Tenbrink had hits in three games, including a pair of two-hit games, last week for Triple A Tacoma… A seventh-round draft pick in 2008 by Seattle, Tenbrink went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI Monday against Fresno, had one hit against Las Vegas on Thursday and registered two hits Sunday against the 51’s… Tenbrink is hitting .234 with 12 doubles, three triples, seven homers and 32 RBI in 72 games… The Rainers lead the Pacific Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League by two games with a 48-36 record.

Justin Bloxom (Double A: Harrisburg/Washington): A 2009 draft pick by Washington, Bloxom had hits in three games with two-multi hit contests last week for Double A Harrisburg… The first baseman went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI Monday against Akron, while he was 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBi at Bowie on Thursday… In 74 games, Bloxom is hitting .240 with 13 doubles, one triple, five homers and 44 RBI… Harrisburg paces the Eastern Division of the Eastern League at 44-37.|

Kyle Hunter (Double A: Jackson/Seattle): Hunter, a 31st-round draft pick of Seattle in 2011, saw time in two games last week for Double A Jackson… The left-hander walked a batter in 0.2 innings Tuesday at Tennessee and allowed a run on two hits with a strikeout Saturday against Birmingham… In 20 outings, including one start, Hunter holds a 1-0 record and a 1.46 ERA with six walks and 14 strikeouts over 24.2 innings… Jackson is 5-5 to begin the second half of the season… Hunter went 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight outings for High Desert earlier this season before being promoted to Double A.

A.J. Morris (Double A: Tennessee/Chicago NL): A 2009 draft choice by Washington, Morris did not pitcher last week for Double A Tennessee… The right-hander holds a 2-0 record and a 4.24 ERA in 18 outings with 24 walks and 36 strikeouts over 40.1 innings… The Smokies are 6-4 to start the second half.

James Allen (High A: Bakersfield/Cincinnati): Allen, a seventh-round selection in 2011, took a no decision in his only start last week for High A Bakersfield… The right-hander went five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts… In 16 games this year – all starts – Allen is 5-5 with a 4.10 ERA in 90 innings with 32 walks and 46 strikeouts… Bakersfield is 4-7 to begin the second half of the season.

Wade Hinkle (Low A: Burlington/Los Angeles AL): A 27th-round selection by the Los Angeles Angels last year, Hinkle had three hits – two of which went for extra bases -  in six games last week for the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League… The first baseman singled Tuesday at Cedar Rapids before hitting a two-run homer Saturday at Beloit and doubling the next day… In 69 games, Hinkle is hitting .258 with 19 doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 38 RBI… The Bees are 1-9 to begin the second half.

Jason King (Low A: West Michigan/Detroit): A fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2011, King began last week with two multi-hit games for West Michigan… The third baseman went 3-for-5 with two solo homers Monday at Fort Wayne and had two more hits – a double and a homer – with three RBI the next day… In 31 games for West Michigan, King is hitting .204 with three doubles, four homers and 13 RBI… He began the season playing for High A Lakeland in which he hit .135 with five doubles, three homers and 13 RBI in 42 games… West Michigan is 5-7 to begin the second half.

Nick Martini (Low A: Peoria/St. Louis): Martini, a seventh-round selection of St. Louis in 2011, recorded two multi-hit games last week for the Peoria Chiefs… The outfielder went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and a RBI on Thursday against Quad Cities and finished his week by going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI Sunday at Cedar Rapids… In 57 games, Martini is hitting .238 with nine doubles, one triple and 17 RBI… The Chiefs are 4-6 to begin the second half of the season.

Jared King (Class A Short Season: Brooklyn/New York NL): A fifth-round selection by the New York Mets this year, King had five hits in six games last week for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League… The left-fielder had a RBI single Monday at Hudson Valley before recording two hits, including a double, the next day… He also singled against the Renegades on both Friday and Saturday… In 10 games, King is hitting .243 (9-for-37) with two doubles and four RBI… The Cyclones are 5-8 to begin the season.

Dan Klein (Class A Short-Season: Vancouver/Toronto): Klein, a 28th-round pick by Toronto last year, played in three games last week for the Vancouver Canadians of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League… The catcher went 2-for-4 with a RBI Tuesday at Spokane and recorded a solo homer Sunday against Tri-City… In 10 games, Klein is hitting .259 (7-for-27) with a double, one homer and five RBI… Vancouver is 10-7 to begin the season.

Jake Brown (Rookie: Bristol/Chicago AL): Brown, a 30th-round selection last year by the Chicago White Sox, recorded one hit in all three games last week for the Bristol White Sox of the Rookie Appalachian League… The shortstop doubled Monday against Kingsport and had two RBI Sunday against Pulaski… In five games for Bristol, Brown is 3-for-18 (.167) with a double and two RBI… Prior to his time in Bristol, Brown played 15 games for High A Kannapolis, hitting .316 (18-for-57) with four doubles, one triple and 12 RBI.

Joe Flattery (Rookie: GCL Tigers/Detroit): A free agent signee by Detroit, Flattery made his first professional appearance on Friday when he tossed a scoreless inning against the GCL Phillies… The left-hander allowed one hit and struck out a batter… The GCL Tigers are 3-2 to begin the year.
