MANHATTAN, Kan. – Each week throughout the summer, k-statesports.com takes look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.
East Texas Pump Jacks
Outfielder Mitch Meyer continues hit above .400 as he had six hits in three games last week for the East Texas Pump Jacks of the Texas Collegiate League… Meyer went 4-for-5 with a double and three RBI Saturday against Brazos Valley and came back with two more hits the next day against the Bombers… In addition, Meyer pitched 1.1 innings Friday against Victoria, allowing a run on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts… In 14 games, Meyer is hitting .432 (19-for-44) with four doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI… East Texas is 3-5 to begin the second half of the season.
Glens Falls Golden Eagles
Left-hander Jared Moore pitched his first game for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles of the Perfect Game Collegiate League last week… The reliever tossed a scoreless inning with a strikeout Sunday against Watertown… Future sophomore Jake Matthys made one start for Glens Falls earlier this summer, allowing an unearned run in five innings with one hit and a walk with seven strikeouts on June 23… The Golden Eagles are 19-12. Harwich Mariners Blair DeBord caught two games last week for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League… The Manhattan product went 0-for-2 Tuesday against Orleans and 1-for-4 Friday at Bourne… The Mariners are in second place in the eastern division with a 14-13 record.
Junction City Brigade
Three Wildcats – Landon Busch, Kyle Speer and Jordan Witcig – are playing for the Junction City Brigade along with incoming freshman Tanner DeVinny… Updated statistics for the Brigade were not available, but through July 4, Busch was 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 12 innings and Witcig was 1-0 with a save and a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings… Speer was hitting .321 (8-for-28) with a double, one triple and 11 RBI, while DeVinney was hitting .375 (10-for-32) with two doubles and seven RBI… Junction City is 18-10 this season.
Pitcher Blake McFadden and infielder RJ Santigate have completed their time playing for the Mat-Su Miners… McFadden tossed a third of an inning, allowing a run on two hits, while Santigate was 0-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored.
North Central Kansas Knights
Outfielder Clayton Dalrymple has not played for the North Central Kansas Knights since June 30… The future sophomore is hitting .279 (11-for-56) in 16 games with two doubles, two RBI and 11 runs scored… The Knights are 10-25 this summer.
Ross Kivett extended his hitting streak to nine games last week the Orleans Firebirds of the Cape Cod League… The infielder had hits in all five games, including a three-hit contest at Hyannis on Friday and two-hit outings against Bourne and Brewster on Wednesday and Sunday, respectively… He doubled as part of his three-hit game, while he drove in a run Wednesday against the Braves… Additionally, Kivett began his week Monday with a grand slam against Bourne… Kivett leads the Firebirds with a .328 average over 16 games with three doubles, two homers and 10 RBI… After starting the season 0-for-15 in his first four games, Kivett is 20-for-46 (.435) over his last 12 contests… Orleans is 11-15 this summer.
Sophomores-to-be Alex Bee, Levi MaVorhis and Lance Miles, along with incoming freshman Braxton Wilks, are playing for the Rossville Rattlers… As of June 26, Bee was hitting .409 (9-for-26) with a double, a homer and six RBI in seven games, while Miles was hitting .250 (8-for-32) with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI in eight games… MaVorhis was 1-0 with a 3.07 ERA in three games with just one walk and 13 strikeouts, while Wilks was 0-1 with a save and a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings.
Topeka Golden Giants
Infielders Shane Conlon and Jake Wodtke are playing for the Topeka Golden Giants, who won the Summer Class Tournament over the past week against Rossville and Junction City… Conlon has played in four games for Topeka, going 6-for-15 (.400) with three doubles and two RBI… Wodtke is hitting .382 with four doubles, one homer and seven RBI… The Golden Giants are 32-16 overall and won the North Division of the Walter Johnson Baseball League with a 14-4 mark.
Carlos Torres (MLB: New York NL): Torres, a right-hander for the New York Mets, made three appearances last week, including his first start of the season… He came out of the bullpen on Monday and Tuesday at San Francisco to toss two scoreless innings in each contest, allowing just one hit and striking out two on Monday before working around four hits on Tuesday… On Saturday at Pittsburgh, Torres tossed five innings and allowed just one run on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts… He was in line for win after he exited the game, but the Mets ended up losing the contest… In 11 games for the Mets, Torres is 0-1 with a 0.79 ERA, surrendering only two earned runs on 18 hits with two walks and 20 strikeouts in 22.2 innings… New York is 41-50 at the All-Star break… Torres began 2013 pitching for Triple A Las Vegas, accumulating a 6-3 record with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts before being called up.

Jared Goedert (Triple A: Indianapolis/Pittsburgh): A free agent signee by Pittsburgh during the offseason, Goedert recorded six hits in seven games last week for Triple A Indianapolis… The third baseman had a RBI single Monday at Columbus, doubled the next day against the Clippers and went 3-for-8 with a home run and two RBI in a 16-inning game on Wednesday that Indians won, 9-6… In 92 games, Goedert is hitting .242 with 22 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 50 RBI… Indianapolis holds a 13-game lead in the International League West Division with a 61-38 record.

Carter Jurica (Triple A: Fresno/San Francisco): A third-round pick by San Francisco in 2010, Jurica singled three times in five games last week for Triple A Fresno… The shortstop also walked twice on Tuesday against Reno and scored two runs on Wednesday… In 81 games, Jurica is hitting .256 with 13 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 24 RBI… The Grizzlies are 44-54.

Evan Marshall (Triple A: Reno/Arizona): Marshall, a fourth-round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, recorded two scoreless road outings last week for Triple A Reno… The right-hander allowed a hit and worked around two walks with a strikeout in 1.2 innings at Fresno on Tuesday before striking out the side Thursday at Tacoma… Marshall is 2-5 with a 4.46 ERA in 35 outings with 23 walks and 40 strikeouts… Reno 41-57 this season.

Nate Tenbrink (Triple A: Tacoma/Seattle): Tenbrink, a seventh-round draft pick in 2008 by Seattle, played in six games last week for Triple A Tacoma… The outfielder/third baseman had a two-hit game Wednesday at Tucson and hit a RBI double Friday at Reno… Tenbrink is hitting .238 in 85 games with 14 doubles, four triples, seven homers and 37 RBI… Tacoma leads the Pacific Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League by one game with a 55-43 record.

Justin Bloxom (Double A: Harrisburg/Washington): A 2009 draft pick by Washington, Bloxom had five hits, including three doubles, in five games last week for Double A Harrisburg… The first baseman singled and drove in a run Monday against Bowie before hitting three doubles with a RBI Thursday at Erie… In 87 games this season, Bloxom is hitting .234 with 16 doubles, one triple, five homers and 47 RBI … The Senators pace the Western Division of the Eastern League by 2.5 games at 52-43.

Kyle Hunter (Double A: Jackson/Seattle): Hunter, a 31st-round draft pick of Seattle in 2011, was outstanding in a start last week for Double A Jackson… The left-hander allowed just one hit over five innings Friday against Tennessee, while he walked just one batter and struck out five… In 23 games, including two starts, Hunter is 1-0 with a 1.24 ERA, walking eight and striking out 24 in 36.1 innings… Jackson holds a 10-14 to begin the second half… Prior to his time in Jackson, Hunter went 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight outings for High Desert earlier this season.

A.J. Morris (Double A: Tennessee/Chicago NL): A 2009 draft choice by Washington, Morris registered his second-straight quality outing last week for Double A Tennessee… The right-hander allowed just one run on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts Monday against Huntsville but took a no decision… Morris holds a 3-0 record and a 3.54 ERA in 21 outings, including seven starts, with 25 walks and 41 strikeouts over 53.1 innings… The Smokies lead the Southern Division of the Southern League with a 16-8 second-half record.

James Allen (High A: Bakersfield/Cincinnati): Allen, a seventh-round selection in 2011, earned a win for the first time in nearly a month when he started Friday’s game at Lake Elsinore for High A Bakersfield… The right-hander tossed 6.2 scoreless innings and allowed just three hits and one walk with six strikeouts… In 19 starts, Allen is 6-7 with a 4.50 ERA in 102.0 innings with 36 walks and 56 strikeouts… Bakersfield is 8-17 to begin the second half.

Jake Brown (Low A: Kannapolis/Chicago AL): Brown, a 30th-round selection last year by the Chicago White Sox, was promoted back to the Kannapolis Intimidators of the Class A South Atlantic League… In his first game back, Brown was 0-for-3 with a walk against Greensboro… In 16 games over two different stints with Kannapolis, Brown is hitting .300 (18-for-60) with four doubles, one triple and 12 RBI… Kannapolis is 9-15 to begin the second half… The shortstop played in 10 games for the Bristol White Sox in between his two stints with the Intimidators, hitting .222 (8-for-36) with a double and four RBI.

Wade Hinkle (Low A: Burlington/Los Angeles AL): A 27th-round selection by the Los Angeles Angels last year, Hinkle had hits in four of six games last week for the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League… The first baseman doubled Wednesday at Great Lakes and capped his week by recording two hits, including a double, Sunday at Lansing… Hinkle is hitting .256 in 81 games with 22 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 41 RBI… Burlington has opened the second half with a 9-14 record.

Jason King (Low A: West Michigan/Detroit): A fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2011, King carded a pair of multi-hit games last week for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League… The third baseman had two hits, including a triple, and drove in four runs Thursday against Clinton, had two more hits with a RBI Saturday at Kane County, while he tripled and had two more RBI against the Cougars on Sunday… In 43 games with West Michigan, King is hitting .250 with four doubles, two triples, six homers and 24 RBI… The Whitecaps are 12-11 to begin the second half… He began the season playing for High A Lakeland in which he hit .135 with five doubles, three homers and 13 RBI in 42 games.

Nick Martini (Low A: Peoria/St. Louis): Martini, a seventh-round selection of St. Louis in 2011, collected five hits in six games last week for the Peoria Chiefs… The outfielder had two hits Monday against Beloit and came away with another two-hit game Sunday at Great Lakes when he doubled and drove in two runs… Martini is hitting .241 in 68 games with 11 doubles, one triple and 22 RBI… Peoria is 11-12 during the second half.

Joe Flattery (Class A Short Season: Connecticut/Detroit): A free agent signee by Detroit following the 2013 season, Flattery was promoted to the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A Short Season New York-Penn League last week… His first appearance for the Tigers turned into his first professional win on Friday when he allowed a run over 2.2 innings against Williamsport… Connecticut holds an 11-16 record… Flattery was pitched three times for the GCL Tigers, tossing four scoreless innings with a walk and seven strikeouts.

Jared King (Class A Short Season: Brooklyn/New York NL): A fifth-round selection by the New York Mets in this year’s draft, King had five hits last week for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League… The left fielder recorded two doubles with a RBI Monday at Lowell and also doubled Thursday at Aberdeen… King is hitting .244 in 23 games with seven doubles and eight RBI… The Cyclones are 11-16 to begin the season.

Dan Klein (Class A Short-Season: Vancouver/Toronto): Klein, a 28th-round pick by Toronto last year, went hitless in three games last week for the Vancouver Canadians of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League… Klein is hitting .180 in 16 games with a double, one triple, one home run and 10 RBI… The Canadians are in second place in the North Division of the Northwest League at 18-12.
