MANHATTAN, Kan. - Each Monday throughout the summer, k-statesports.com takes a look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.

Alaska Baseball League
Juniors-to-be Matt Applegate and James Allen helped the Mat-Su Miners win the 2010 Alaska Baseball League Championship with a 33-15 overall record and a 31-14 mark in league play... Applegate started and took the win on the final day of the season against the Alaska Goldpanners on Saturday as the right-hander threw 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with three walks and a strikeout... Allen pitched 1.1 innings of relief against the Goldpanners on Friday, surrendering just one hit with a walk and a strikeout.

California Collegiate League
Junior-to-be Mike Kindel had a great week for the San Luis Obispo Blues as he went 10-for-20 with a double, a triple, four RBI, four runs scored and six stolen bases in six games last week... A 2010 California Collegiate League All-Star, Kindel's best game of the week came on Thursday against the OC Pioneers when he went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, a RBI and two steals... He also went 3-for-4 on Saturday with a steal against Team Vegas... In 40 games this summer, Kindel hit .314 (44-for-140) with eight doubles, three triples, 19 RBI and 20 steals in 21 attempts... Junior-to-be Justin Lindsey pitched this summer for the Blues, but did not make an appearance during the final week... In six starts this summer, Lindsey went 3-1 with a 3.91 ERA in 25.1 innings pitched, while walking seven and striking out 23... The Blues finished the summer with a 32-17 overall record, including a 24-12 mark in the CCL.

Cape Cod League
Junior-to-be Nick Martini recorded his best week of the summer as he was 12-for-32 (.375) with two doubles, a triple and four RBI in eight games for the Falmouth Commodores... He began the week with a five-game hitting streak, including a 2-for-5 effort with a RBI double against Yarmouth-Dennis on Tuesday and a 3-for-5 outing with two RBI at Hyannis on Thursday... He also recorded two-hit games in a split doubleheader against Chatham and Hyannis on Sunday... In 36 games this summer, Martini is hitting .240 (31-for-129) with five doubles, two triples, one home run and 18 RBI... Falmouth is fourth in the western division with an 18-22-1 record.

Central Plains Baseball League
Four K-State freshmen during the 2010 season - Jake Doller (pitcher), Chase Graskewicz (catcher), Ryan Moore (outfielder) and Tyler Sturges (pitcher) - as well as a trio of signees - Johnny Fasola (pitcher/infielder), Shawn Lewick (pitcher) and Jared King (infielder/outfielder) - played for the Junction City Generals this summer... Moore finished second on the team with a .338 average (24-for-71) with four doubles, a triple, 11 RBI and a team-leading 17 stolen bases... King was .333 (26-for-78) with a team-high .513 slugging percentage... The infielder/outfielder had eight doubles, two homers and drove in 15 RBI on the season... Fasola hit .311 (14-for-45) with a double, a homer and two RBI, while Graskewicz held a .235 average (8-for-34) with 10 RBI... Final pitching statistics for the Generals were not available.

Coastal Plain League
Senior-to-be Kent Urban went 7-for-15 with a home run and three runs scored in five games last week for the Petersburg Generals... He was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer on Tuesday against Wilson, while he also had two-hit games against Wilson on Friday and against Thomasville on Sunday... Urban is hitting .250 (24-for-96) with six doubles, two home runs and 22 RBI in 27 games this summer... Junior-to-be Kyle Hunter took the loss in his only start of the week against Outer Banks on Wednesday... The left-hander surrendered three runs on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts in 6.0 innings of work... In six starts this season, Hunter is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA, having allowed 11 earned runs on 25 hits with 15 walks and 33 strikeouts in 33.0 innings... Petersburg is 13-41 overall, including a 6-20 second-half mark, and concludes its season on Monday.

National Baseball Congress World Series
Seven Wildcats are playing in the 2010 National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series, which runs July 30-August 13... Junior-to-be Matt Giller and sophomore-to-be Blair DeBord are playing for the El Dorado Broncos, who defeated the Gunnison (Colo.) Colts on Saturday... Giller went 1-for-4 with a RBI in the contest... Sophomores-to-be Nick Cocking, Jake Doller and Tyler Sturges are joined by junior Brandon Faulkner on the Liberal Bee Jays... Liberal defeated the Austin Gold Sox on Sunday as Cocking went 0-for-4... Sophomore-to-be Robert Hawkins in pitching for the Denver Bombers, who will attempt to battle back through the losers' bracket on Tuesday after dropping their opening game to Valley Center on Sunday... Jake Brown and Jared King are playing for the Chillicothe Mudcats, who won their first game on Sunday, 7-0, over Everett... King went 3-for-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored, while Brown was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

Southern California Collegiate Baseball Association
Juniors-to-be Kayvon Bahramzadeh and Jake Brown played for the Palms Spring Power this summer... In five games, including four starts, Bahramzadeh went 1-1 with 1.17 ERA in 23.0 innings with six walks and 18 strikeouts... Brown hit .130 (3-for-23) with a double and three RBI in limited action... The Power concluded their season with a 34-4 record, including a 20-3 mark in league play.

Texas Collegiate League
Sophomore-to-be Chase Graskewicz joined the East Texas PumpJacks last week after concluding play for the Junction City Generals... In four games for the PumpJacks, the catcher is 3-for-8 with four walks, two RBI and a run scored... East Texas is 27-16 overall and leads the TCL with a 13-5 second-half record.

Topeka Golden Giants (Independent)
Sophomores-to-be Tanner Witt and Robert Hawkins were joined by another current Wildcat, Brandon Faulkner, and an incoming pitcher, Cody Faulkner, on the Topeka Golden Giants roster... Final statistics were not available... Through games on July 7, Brandon Faulkner was 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA, allowing 11 earned runs in 36.2 innings, while walking 14 and striking out 39... Cody Faulkner was 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 16.0 innings, while Hawkins was 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA... Witt was hitting .222 (12-for-54) with two doubles, 11 RBI and seven steals, while holding a .593 on-base percentage.

K-State Pros
Drew Biery: Biery went 4-for-21with a double, a homer and four RBI in six games last week for the High A San Jose Giants... A 2009 draft choice by San Francisco, Biery hit a RBI double against Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday before connecting on a two-run homer against the Quakes on Thursday... In 86 games this season, Biery is hitting .262 with eight doubles, a triple, 13 home runs and 51 RBI... After winning the first half of the California League North Division, the Giants are 14-23 in the second half and 59-48 overall.
 
Justin Bloxom: An 11th-round selection by the Washington Nationals last year, Bloxom went 6-for-21 and recorded a pair of multi-hit contests in five games last week for the Hagerstown Suns of the South Atlantic League... The first baseman was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI Friday at Greensboro, while he also tagged the Grasshoppers for another two hits on Sunday... In 101 games this season, Bloxom is hitting .310 with 29 doubles, four triples, 10 homers and 68 RBI to go along with 10 stolen bases... He is tied for first in the league in hits (126), third in doubles and total bases (193), fourth in RBI, fifth in average, eighth in both runs scored (65) and slugging percentage (.474) and ninth in OPS (.829) ... The Suns, who are 48-58 overall this season, are 12-24 in the second half to sit seventh in the northern division second-half standings.
 
Adam Cowart: A second-year pitcher for the Wichita Wingnuts of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball, Cowart earned his first win since July 3 on Sunday when he allowed four runs (one earned) on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in 5.2 innings at Pensacola... In his previous four starts, the right-hander took one loss and three no decisions after winning against St. Paul in the beginning of July... In 15 starts for Wichita, Cowart is 4-6 with a 4.38 ERA, but has allowed just 25 walks in 86.1 innings (2.61 walks-per-nine innings)... Wichita is 35-37 this season and 15-9 in the second-half standings to sit third in the north division.

Eric Eymann: Eymann, a 2005 selection by the Cincinnati Reds, came off the 7-Day Disabled List last week to play in three games... On Friday, he was a pinch hitter and drew a walk against Jacksonville before going 1-for-3 on Saturday... In 84 games this season for Double A Carolina, Eymann is hitting .257 with 18 doubles, a triple, five homers and 34 RBI... The Mudcats are third in the Southern League North Division second-half standings at 18-18, while the Mudcats are 48-57 overall.

Jared Goedert: Goedert, a 2006 draft pick by Cleveland, was 5-for-26 in seven games last week for Triple A Columbus... The third baseman, who was promoted from Double A in early June, went 1-for-3 with a solo home run against Buffalo on Tuesday, while he also tallied two hits, including a double, Thursday against the Bison... In 50 games for the Clippers, Goedert is hitting .290 (58-for-200) with 16 doubles, 17 home runs and 37 RBI... His slugging percentage (.625) would lead the International League, while his OPS (.995) would rank second if he met the required minimum of at-bats... Goedert is eighth in the league home runs despite playing just half the season in Triple A... Columbus sits atop the west division at 66-44, 6.5 games ahead of second-place Louisville.

Ben Hornbeck: A 2008 draft selection by Oakland, Hornbeck took the win in his only start of the week on Friday against Modesto... The left-hander allowed five runs on seven hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work... Hornbeck, who began the season at Double A Midland, is 4-3 with a 5.50 ERA in High A... In 70.1 innings pitched, he has allowed 32 walks as opposed to 84 strikeouts... Hornbeck has struck out 38 batters in his last six starts (6.33 per game)... He ranks 14th in the league in strikeouts, but tops among pitchers with 14 or less starts... Stockton is 51-56 overall but 20-17 in the second half to sit second in the California League North Division standings.

Trevor Hurley: Hurley, a 2010 South Atlantic League All-Star, worked three innings in his only appearance for High A Bakersfield of the California League... Hurley, a 2008 draft pick by Oakland that was promoted in early July, allowed one run on three hits with a walk and two strikeouts in a Blaze win at Lancaster on Saturday... In seven appearances in High A, Hurley is 0-1 with a 2.13 ERA, allowing three earned runs on eight hits with eight walks and 13 strikeouts in 12.2 innings... The right-hander was 0-1 with a 1.43 ERA and 11 saves in 26 appearances at Low A Hickory before being promoted... Bakersfield, which finished fifth in the north division standings in the first half, leads the division during the second half with a 24-13 record.

Carter Jurica: A third-round selection this year by San Francisco, Jurica produced seven RBI in five games last week for Salem-Keizer of the Class A Short Season Northwest League... The shortstop, who was 3-for-18 during the week, fueled a four-run comeback win on Wednesday against Yakima with a two-RBI single... He came back with a pair of homers on Thursday and Friday against the Bears - a three-run shot on Thursday and a two-run home run on Friday... In 36 games this season, Jurica is hitting .193 (26-for-135) with a three doubles, three triples, three home runs, 20 RBI and 16 runs scored... The Volcanoes are 18-25 overall and 1-4 to begin the second half.

A.J. Morris: Morris, a fourth-round draft choice of the Washington Nationals in 2009, went back on the 7-Day Disabled List on Wednesday, his third trip to the DL this season... In 13 games this season, including 12 starts, Morris is 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA... He has allowed 22 walks and struck out 53 in 60.0 innings... The P-Nats hold a 49-55 overall record, while they are second in the northern division during the second half with an 18-16 mark.

Adam Muenster: A 29th-round draft choice by Cincinnati, Muenster saw action in two games last week for the Arizona League (AZL) Reds... He went 1-for-4 with a RBI single and a sacrifice fly on Tuesday against the AZL Brewers before going 0-for-1 with three walks on Wednesday at the AZL Giants... In 23 games this season, Muenster is 14-for-72 (.194) with two doubles, eight RBI and 12 walks... The AZL Reds are fourth in the central division at 14-18.

Justin Murray: Murray, a 2008 draft selection by Oakland, went back to the bullpen last week after starting two games the week prior for High A Stockton of the California League... Against Modesto on Friday, the right-hander allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 3.2 innings of work... Murray, who has spent time in both High A and Double A this season, is 7-4 with a 4.11 ERA in 22 games between the two levels... He has worked 100.2 innings this season, while walking 54 and striking out 73... Stockton is 51-56 overall but 20-17 in the second half to sit second in the California League North Division standings.

Nate Tenbrink: Tenbrink, a 2008 selection by Seattle, recorded three multi-hit games last week for Double A West Tenn of the Southern League... The infielder/outfielder, who was 7-for-18 in five games, went 2-for-4 with three runs scored on Monday against Birmingham and was also 2-for-4 with a RBI double Friday at Tennessee... He came back against the Smokies on Saturday to go 3-for-4... In 39 games in Double A, Tenbrink is hitting .280 (35-for-125) with five doubles, two triples, four homers and 19 RBI since being promoted to the club from High A High Desert on May 26... West Tenn is 54-51 overall and 15-21 in the second half to sit fifth in the north division standings.

Carlos Torres: Torres, a 2004 selection by the Chicago White Sox and the latest former Wildcat in the MLB, took a no decision in his only start last week for Triple A Charlotte... The right-hander worked five scoreless innings at Louisville on Thursday, allowing just two hits and a walk to go along with six strikeouts... Torres, a 2010 Triple A All-Star, is 7-7 with a 3.41 ERA in 129.1 innings pitched with 57 walks and 122 strikeouts this season... The right-hander is second in the International League strikeouts, third in innings pitched and eighth in ERA... Charlotte sits second in the south division at 54-56.

Rob Vaughn: A 30th-round pick in the 2009 draft by the Chicago White Sox, Vaughn saw action in three games last week for the Great Falls Voyagers of the Rookie Pioneer League... He went 1-for-4 on Tuesday against Idaho Falls before playing at Helena on Friday and at Missoula on Sunday... In 14 games this season, Vaughn is 9-for-36 (.250) with five RBI... Great Falls won the north division during the first half with a 23-15 record and is 2-0 to begin the second half.

Byron Wiley: A free agent signee by Arizona this season, Wiley is a member of the Visalia Rawhide of the California League... The outfielder has not played since June 14 and remains on the 7-Day Disabled List... In nine games this season for Visalia, Wiley is hitting .286 (10-for-35) with a homer and seven RBI... The Rawhide are 54-53 overall and 24-13 in the second half to sit fourth in the north division.
