MANHATTAN, Kan. - A few days after being named a New York-Penn League All-Star, former Wildcat Ross Kivett received even better news on Monday as he was promoted to the Class A West Michigan Whitecaps.

Kivett, who was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the sixth round of this summer's MLB Draft, joins the Whitecaps after playing in 47 games with the Class A Short Season Connecticut Tigers. The outfielder hit .289 with 10 doubles, two triples, a home run and 26 RBI while he leaves Connecticut as the team's leader in hits with 55.

A native of Broadview Heights, Ohio, Kivett was one of five Tigers selected to this year's New York-Penn League All-Star Game.

Kivett was a four-year letterwinner at K-State from 2011-14. The former All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year is among the program's leaders in several statistical categories, including holding the school record in career stolen bases.

West Michigan enters Monday with the best record in the Midwest League, sitting in first place of the Eastern Division with a 31-18 record.
