MANHATTAN, Kan. - Each week throughout the summer, k-statesports.com takes look at current and former Wildcats in collegiate summer leagues and in the professional ranks.
East Texas Pump Jacks
Outfielder Mitch Meyer had one hit in five games last week to close out his summer playing for the East Texas Pump Jacks of the Texas Collegiate League... The junior-to-be doubled Saturday in a one-game playoff against Victoria, a contest the Pump Jacks lost to conclude their season... In 31 games, Meyer hit .372 with seven doubles, three triples, four home runs and 34 RBI... He also pitched twice, allowing six runs on three hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
Glens Falls Golden Eagles
Left-hander Jared Moore concluded his season pitching for the Glens Falls Golden Eagles of the Perfect Game Collegiate League... The senior-to-be went 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA in seven outings - including one start - as he allowed four earned runs on nine hits with six walks and 13 strikeouts in 14.2 innings... Future sophomore Jake Matthys made one start for Glens Falls earlier this summer, allowing an unearned run on one hit in five innings with a walk and seven strikeouts on June 23.
Catcher Blair DeBord and the Harwich Mariners concluded their season in the Cape Cod League Playoffs last week... DeBord went 1-for-3 with two runs scored in the opening game against Orleans, a contest the Mariners won, 6-5... The Manhattan product started the decisive third game and went 1-for-4 as Harwich lost to see its season come to an end... In 17 games, DeBord hit .245 (13-for-53) with a double and six RBI.
Junction City Brigade
Three Wildcats - Landon Busch, Kyle Speer and Jordan Witcig - played for the Junction City Brigade along with incoming freshman Tanner DeVinny... Speer finished the season hitting .333 (20-for-60) with three doubles, one triple, two homers and 18 RBI, while DeVinney hit .288 (17-for-59) with five doubles, a home run and 16 RBI... Updated pitching statistics were not available, but through July 4, Busch was 1-0 with a 0.75 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 12 innings and Witcig was 1-0 with a save and a 2.45 ERA in 11 innings... Junction City finished its season with a 21-13 record.
Pitcher Blake McFadden and infielder RJ Santigate saw limited time playing for the Mat-Su Miners of the Alaska Baseball League... McFadden tossed a third of an inning, allowing a run on two hits, while Santigate was 0-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored.
NBC World Series
Sophomores-to-be Landon Busch and Alex Bee played in the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series... Busch earned two wins in two starts for the El Dorado Broncos, one coming on July 29 against the Tulsa Braves when he allowed two runs over five innings and the other on Monday against the Colorado Sox when he allowed two runs (one earned) with a walk and four strikeouts in seven innings... Bee singled and walked in two games for the Hays Larks.
North Central Kansas Knights
Outfielder Clayton Dalrymple and the North Central Kansas Knights finished its season with a 12-32 record... In 21 games, Dalrymple hit .300 (18-for-60) with three doubles, four RBI and 12 runs.
Ross Kivett, a Cape Cod League All-Star, along with Shane Conlon led the Orleans Firebirds to the Cape Cod League championship series, which begins this week... Kivett registered four hits last week, including a 2-for-4 effort with a RBI and three runs in the division championship over Chatham on Sunday... In 40 games, including the playoffs and the All-Star Game, Kivett is hitting .319 with 11 doubles, three homers and 20 RBI... Conlon, who joined Orleans in late July, was 2-for-3 with a double in a victory over Harwich on Wednesday... In 14 games with the Firebirds, Conlon is hitting .204 (10-for-49) with a double and a RBI... Orleans went 24-19-1 during the regular season.
Sophomores-to-be Alex Bee, Levi MaVorhis and Lance Miles, along with incoming freshman Braxton Wilks, played for the Rossville Rattlers... Final statistics were not available, but through July 26, Bee was hitting .365 (27-for-74) with five doubles, two triples, three home runs and 20 RBI, while Miles was hitting .205 (8-for-39) with three doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI... MaVorhis was 3-0 with a 2.61 ERA in six games with just three walks and 36 strikeouts, while Wilks was 1-2 with two saves and a 2.45 ERA in 25.2 innings... Wilks has also played in 29 games in the field, hitting .213 with four doubles, one triple, one homer and nine RBI.
Topeka Golden Giants
The Topeka Golden Giants completed their season with a 33-16 overall record and finished as the runner-up in the Walter Johnson Baseball League... Infielders Shane Conlon and Jake Wodtke played for the Golden Giants as Conlon went 6-for-15 in four games with three doubles and two RBI, while Wodtke hit .382 (21-for-55) with four doubles, a homer and seven RBI.
Carlos Torres (MLB: New York NL): Torres, a right-handed pitcher for the New York Mets, carded a pair of scoreless appearance last week... A 15th-round pick by the Chicago White Sox in 2004, Torres worked 1.2 no-hit innings with a strikeout Tuesday against his former team, the Colorado Rockies, while he worked around three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning Saturday at Arizona... In 18 appearances, including three starts, Torres is 2-2 with a 2.63 ERA, surrendering 11 earned runs on 39 hits with just six walks and 30 strikeouts in 37.2 innings... The Mets are 54-61 this year to sit in third place in the National League East Division... Torres began 2013 pitching for Triple A Las Vegas, accumulating a 6-3 record with a 3.89 ERA in 12 starts before being called up.

Jared Goedert (Triple A: Indianapolis/Pittsburgh): A free agent signee by Pittsburgh during the offseason, Goedert registered a pair of two-hit games last week for Triple A Indianapolis... He went 2-for-4 with a double Tuesday at Louisville and came back with another two-hit game Friday against Toledo... Goedert also doubled Sunday at Toledo... In 111 games, Goedert is hitting .233 with 25 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 56 RBI... Indianapolis holds a 10-game lead in the International League West Division at 70-54.

Carter Jurica (Triple A: Fresno/San Francisco): A third-round pick by San Francisco in 2010, Jurica played in two games last week last week for Triple A Fresno, singling on Friday at Iowa before driving in a run against the Cubs on Sunday... In 91 games, the shortstop is hitting .255 with 14 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 28 RBI... Fresno is 57-64 this season.

Evan Marshall (Triple A: Reno/Arizona): Marshall, a fourth-round selection by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2011, pitched three times out of the bullpen last week for Triple A Reno... The right-hander tossed two-thirds of a scoreless inning with a strikeout Tuesday at New Orleans before throwing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts Friday against Memphis... Marshall also allowed a run in one inning on Saturday... In 46 relief appearances, Marshall is 3-6 with a 4.04 ERA and three saves, while he has issued 26 walks and struck out 51 batters in 49 innings... Reno is 48-74 this year.

Nate Tenbrink (Triple A: Tacoma/Seattle): Tenbrink, a seventh-round draft pick in 2008 by Seattle, tallied eight hits in six games last week for Triple A Tacoma... The third baseman/outfielder was 3-for-4 with a double and a solo homer Tuesday against Iowa before doubling Friday and going 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI Saturday at Albuquerque... Tenbrink is hitting .259 in 104 games with 19 doubles, four triples, 12 homers and 49 RBI... The Rainers are in second place in the Pacific Northern Division of the Pacific Coast League with a 65-58 record.

Justin Bloxom (Double A: Harrisburg/Washington): A 2009 draft pick by Washington, Bloxom registered hits in five of his six contests last week for Double A Harrisburg... The first baseman went 2-for-4 with a double Wednesday against Reading, doubled Friday at Altoona and went 2-for-4 Saturday against the Curve... In 111 games, Bloxom is hitting .241 with 20 doubles, one triple, seven homers and 59 RBI... The Senators narrowly lead the Western Division of the Eastern League by one game at 65-56.

Kyle Hunter (Double A: Jackson/Seattle): Hunter, a 31st-round draft pick of Seattle in 2011, moved back into the starting rotation last week for Double A Jackson... The left-hander earned the win on Thursday at Mississippi, working five scoreless innings and allowing only four hits with a walk and two strikeouts... In 29 outings with Jackson, including three starts, Hunter is 2-0 with a 1.13 ERA, walking 11 and striking out 33 in 47.2 innings... The Generals are 22-25 during the second half... Prior to his time in Jackson, Hunter went 1-1 with a 3.65 ERA in eight outings for High Desert.

A.J. Morris (Double A: Tennessee/Chicago NL): A 2009 draft choice by Washington, Morris worked once out of the bullpen last week for Double A Tennessee, allowing five runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts in three innings Saturday against Montgomery... In 25 games, including 10 starts, Morris is 3-2 with a 5.29 ERA while surrendering 33 walks and striking out 49 over 64.2 innings... The Smokies lead the Southern Division of the Southern League with a 27-20 second-half record.

James Allen (High A: Bakersfield/Cincinnati): Allen, a seventh-round selection by the Reds in 2011, made one start last week for High A Bakersfield on Thursday at Stockton, allowing nine runs (seven earned) on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts in 3.1 innings, but he took a no decision... In 24 starts, Allen is 8-9 with a 5.11 ERA in 123.1 innings with 47 walks and 73 strikeouts... Bakersfield is 20-30 during the second half.

Wade Hinkle (Low A: Burlington/Los Angeles AL): A 27th-round selection by the Los Angeles Angels last year, Hinkle came away with seven hits over five games last week for the Burlington Bees of the Midwest League... The first baseman went 3-for-5 with a double and a RBI Monday at Peoria before a 2-for-4 effort with another double the next day against the Chiefs... He closed out his week Friday by going 2-for-4 with another double and a RBI at Kane County... Hinkle is hitting .262 in 104 games with 27 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs and 58 RBI... Burlington holds a 19-30 second-half record.

Jason King (Low A: West Michigan/Detroit): A fourth-round pick by Detroit in 2011, King played in six games last week for the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League... The third baseman singled on both Thursday and Sunday, driving in a run in on Thursday at Lansing... In 66 games with the Whitecaps, King holds a .252 batting average with nine doubles, two triples, seven homers and 31 RBI... West Michigan is 23-24 during the second half... King began the season playing for High A Lakeland in which he hit .135 with five doubles, three homers and 13 RBI in 42 games.

Dan Klein (Low A: Lansing/Toronto): Klein, a 28th-round pick by Toronto last year, had three hits in three games last week for Low A Lansing of the Midwest League... The catcher went 2-for-3 with a double Wednesday against West Michigan and singled Saturday at Great Lakes... In nine games with the Lugnuts, Klein is hitting .310 (9-for-29) with four doubles, a homer and four RBI... Lansing is 19-31 during the second half... Klein had played in 19 games for the Vancouver Canadians of the Class A Short-Season Northwest League prior to being promoted to Lansing, hitting .183 with a double, a triple, two homers and 11 RBI.

Nick Martini (Low A: Peoria/St. Louis): Martini, a seventh-round selection of St. Louis in 2011, played in five games last week for the Peoria Chiefs... The outfielder's lone hit was a RBI single Saturday at Clinton... In 90 games, Martini is hitting .238 with 14 doubles, one triple and 27 RBI... Peoria is 25-24 during the second half.

Kayvon Bahramzadeh (Class A Short-Season: Vermont/Oakland): Bahramzadeh, a 24th-round selection last year by Oakland, registered a pair of scoreless outings last week for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York-Penn League... The right-hander earned the win on Wednesday against Jamestown when he tossed three no-hit innings with a strikeout... He also pitched a scoreless inning Sunday against Williamsport... In six appearances this season, Bahramzadeh is 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA... Vermont is 26-28 this season.

Joe Flattery (Class A Short Season: Connecticut/Detroit): A free agent signee by Detroit following the 2013 season, Flattery has not pitched since July 23 and currently resides on the disabled list for the Connecticut Tigers of the Class A Short Season New York-Penn League... The left-hander holds a 1-0 record and a 2.53 ERA with two walks and eight strikeouts in three outings, including two starts, with the Tigers... Connecticut is 24-29 this season... Flattery pitched three times for the GCL Tigers, tossing four scoreless innings with a walk and seven strikeouts, prior to begin promoted.

Jared King (Class A Short Season: Brooklyn/New York NL): A fifth-round selection by the New York Mets in this year's draft, King went 0-for-1 in his only game last week for the Brooklyn Cyclones of the Class A Short-Season New York-Penn League... The left fielder is hitting .264 in 42 games with 13 doubles and 16 RBI... The Cyclones hold an even 26-26 record.

Jake Brown (Rookie: Bristol/Chicago AL): Brown, a 30th-round selection last year by the Chicago White Sox, played in three games last week for the Bristol White Sox of the Rookie Appalachian League, including a 2-for-4 effort with two runs Thursday against Greeneville... In 17 games with the White Sox, Brown is hitting .197 (12-for-61) with three doubles and five RBI... Bristol is 13-36 this season... In 21 games with the Kannapolis Intimidators, Brown is hitting .276 with four doubles, a triple and 12 RBI.
