Baseball Announces 2007 Schedule

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State head baseball coach Brad Hill announced the team’s 2007 schedule Monday, which includes 27 home games and 26 games against teams that advanced to 2006 NCAA Regional play. The Wildcats open the 2007 slate February 16 in Shreveport, La., where they will play two games each with Penn State and host Centenary.

“This will be a challenging schedule,” Hill said. “We open the season with 11 games on the road and will face an upgraded non-conference portion with the likes of Arizona State, Ohio State, Wichita State and Lamar, all of which have gone to the NCAA Tournament as recently as last season. The Big 12 is always tough and we feel our non-conference schedule can give our guys the preparation they need heading into league play.”

The Wildcats, after opening at Centenary, head to Tampa, Fla., on February 23 for four total games, one each against Seton Hall and James Madison and a doubleheader against Big 10 power Ohio State. K-State then concludes its season-opening road trip on March 2-4 with a trip to Beaumont, Texas, where the Cats will face St. John’s, Cal-Santa Barbara and host Lamar at the Lamar Tournament.

Kansas State opens the 2007 home slate March 5 and 6 with a mid-week series against Brigham Young before hosting North Dakota State for a weekend series March 9-11. The Wildcats then travel to perennial power Arizona State for two games in Tempe, Ariz., March 13-14, before hosting Central Michigan at home on the weekend.

The Big 12 schedule begins March 23-25 on the road at national power Texas before hosting in-state rival Wichita State March 27 at Tointon Stadium. The game with the Shockers begins a nine-game home stand, the longest of the season for K-State, which includes Big 12 series with Texas Tech and Missouri and non-conference games against Kansas and Creighton. The Wildcats and Jayhawks have agreed to play a non-conference game in 2007 with K-State hosting the match-up since two of the three games in the Big 12 series on May 4-6 will be played in Lawrence.

The Cats travel to Wichita State on April 24 to once again face the Shockers before turning around and heading to Kansas City the following day to face Missouri State at the T-Bones Classic at Community America Ballpark.

Other Big 12 home series include Oklahoma (April 20-22) and Texas A&M (May 11-13), while K-State travels to Oklahoma State (April 13-15), Nebraska (April 27-29) and Baylor (May 18-20).

The Wildcats return 17 lettermen, five position players who were starters and seven pitchers from last season’s 31-20-2 squad that won five games in a row to end the season.
