Kansas State Quotes
Head Coach Frank Martin
On his thoughts of tonight’s game …
“We have too much drama on our basketball team. It is hard to move forward when you are constantly dealing with guys that are in-out, in-out, in-out. We are not very disciplined. Mentally we have a couple of rough patches as far as getting through the tough moments. It is my job to make those young kids understand. We have to stay more focused and disciplined on the job at hand.”

On the team’s rebounding…
“Their guys went and battled and our guys did not. We stood and watched. Rebounding is an effort play, it is a disciplined play. We have got to be able to lay wood on people and we do not lay wood on anybody. People can get on the boards and rebound against us and they can get on the rim and score against us. It is like the parting of the Red Sea.”

On the team being out of sync …
“Whose fault is that? Mine. That is what I get paid to do, have five players on the floor and having everyone on the same page. We have done pretty well for three years and obviously we have not done a very good job of doing that this year.”

On faulting the players …
“I am not in the business of blaming people. I do not blame people; I do not criticize people for a living. I try and help people for a living. I teach people for a living. My thought process as a mathematics teacher where your focus is always on solving problems, that is what I do. It is my job to figure this one out. It is not their job. They do not know any better; they are kids. How are they supposed to know any better? It is my job to get them through this and we are going to go after it and fix it.”

Senior Guard Jacob Pullen
On the loss against Colorado…
“That one hurt. Four years at Kansas State and we never lost to Colorado. No disrespect to them, but I always felt we had the better team. Losing to them tonight really hurt a lot.”

On Colorado’s streak at the end of the first half…
“Same thing that has happened all season, a lack of focus, and a lack of awareness. We have three people running one thing and two people running something else. It hurts us, so we have got to fix it.”

On playing with Big 12 intensity…
“Definitely, there were a lot of times defensively when we weren’t doing what we were supposed to, getting to the ball, problems with rebounding, lack of focus, not knowing who is on the court, not finding shooters, just lazy mistakes.”

Sophomore Guard Rodney McGruder
On the team’s streakiness…
“I would not say it is streaky, I would just say that we do not have everything together right now. We are working on finding a leader right now and just coming together as one.”

Colorado Quotes
Head Coach Tad Boyle
Opening Statement…
“The number one thing we talked to our team about when we play K-State, that if you are not ready to battle on the boards, you are going to get embarrassed. And to be plus-9 on a team like K-State shows that our guys battled and played with toughness. It is not easy but they have great athletes. What makes this win special was the respect that I have for this program and for Frank Martin and the way his players play. Jacob Pullen is a terrific player. That is what makes it special for us. We are not hooping and hollering because we beat a bad team, because we beat a good team tonight.”

On closing out the first half strongly …
“They made two runs on us, but we did not get out of the gates very well. In the first half, we battled back to tie it at 24, and then they ran it up to 31-24, but we tied it back up at 33 going into the half. We turned the ball over 13 times in the half. So we were lucky going into the half. We have to gain confidence from battling back like we did. We just have to take better care of the ball on the road.”

On his team’s toughness …
“It is a huge testament to our guys’ grit and toughness. It is not easy winning on the road in college basketball, especially in an environment like this. Their fans were great. Driving to shoot-around today their campus looked kind of desolate so I did not think their students would come back for this one, but I walked out and the student section was full. It was a great environment for college basketball. Tonight’s win shows where our players are in terms of their belief in each other.”

Guard Levi Knutson
On his shooting performance tonight…
“I have confidence shooting the ball all year, and my teammates continued to get me the ball tonight. My shots were going down tonight, but I think we won defensively tonight.”

On his team’s success so far this year…
“We are a totally different team this year, period. We are defending and rebounding better, and that is what it takes to win in the Big 12.”

Senior Guard Cory Higgins
On back-to-back wins over ranked teams…
“It awesome to be the first team in our school’s history, but we’re trying to start a new chapter. So this is a whole new Colorado team.”

On Colorado’s 27-7 scoring run…
“Our motto is; let everything out on defense and let offense take care of itself. Also our rebounding was good and we ended up winning the game.”

On senior Levi Knutson…
“He has been doing that all year. It was not a big surprise to us, but it might have been a big surprise to everyone else. He is a senior and we expect him to step up in these situations.”
