Spradling leads Wildcats past Aggies 64-53

MANHATTAN, Kan.Will Spradling scored a career-high 19 points as Kansas State snapped a two-game losing streak, beating Texas A&M 64-53.

Despite shooting woes in his past four games, Spradling came out firing as the sophomore guard knocked down four 3-pointers including a four-point play.

The Aggies (12-10, 3-7) began the game with a furious attack, taking a quick 10-point lead after using a 12-2 run. The Wildcats (16-6, 5-5) were able to chip away at the lead using an 8-0 run of their own to cut the Aggie lead to 16-14 highlighted by the Spradling four-point play. Both teams would trade baskets and Texas A&M held a slim 25-24 halftime lead.

K-State grabbed its first lead of the game after Angel Rodriguez slashed to the rim and made a lay-up. After Naji Hibbert made two free throws and an Elston Turner 3-pointer gave the Aggies a 34-30 lead, the Wildcats began an 11-0 run started by a Thomas Gipson lay-up and a Rodney McGruder 3-pointer. Turner finished with a team high 18 points.

Despite scoring zero points in the first half, Rodriguez quickly changed his fortune scoring 11 points in a span of two minutes. The freshman guard finished the game with 13 points and dished out four assists while also pulling down five rebounds.

The Wildcats were able to dominate inside the paint, outscoring the Aggies 30-14 and were able to capitalize off of second chance opportunities scoring 17 points after hauling in nine offensive rebounds.

This was the final time K-State would face Texas A&M as a Big 12 Conference opponent in Manhattan with the Wildcats making the return trip to College Station at the end of the month. The Aggies are winless all-time in the series in Manhattan. K-State has defeated Texas A&M all 10 times the Aggies have come to town.

K-State finishes its two-game homestead on Tuesday as the Wildcats host Texas Tech. K-State won the first meeting 69-47. The game can be seen live on the Big 12 Network at 7 p.m.
