Beasley to appear on ESPN2's First Take

MANHATTAN, Kan. Freshman forward Michael Beasley will be a guest on ESPN2’s First Take on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. CST as apart of a week-long segment on the college basketball’s top freshmen.

First Take is a two-hour program that is co-hosted by Jay Crawford and Dana Jacobson.

Beasley was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 28.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in wins over Savannah State and Oklahoma.  In all, it marked the fourth time that he has collected player of the week honors, earning Player of the Week honors on Nov. 12, 2007 and Rookie of the Week accolades on Nov. 19 and Dec. 26, 2007.

In his first Big 12 contest against Oklahoma on Saturday, Beasley scored a game-high 32 points, including the game-winning basket with 2.3 seconds left, to go with 11 rebounds in helping the Wildcats to their first win in Norman since 1996.  It marked the sixth time this season has registered 30 or more points in a contest, which is one shy of the school record for a single-season held by Bob Boozer (7, 1958-59) and Norris Coleman (7, 1985-86).

The former No. 1 high school recruit continues to impress this season, as he is averaging 24.8 points on 57.2 percent shooting (139-of-243), including 35.3 percent from 3-point range, with 13.1 rebounds, 2.0 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.2 steals in 30.5 minutes per game this season. As of Friday, he ranked among the top-5 in the nation in both scoring (fifth) and rebounding (first).  He has recorded a double-double in 14 of 15 games this season and has totaled 11 games of 20 or more points.

Kansas State (11-4, 1-0 Big 12) returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 19 when the Wildcats play host to nationally-ranked Texas A&M (15-1, 1-0 Big 12) at Bramlage Coliseum beginning at 3 p.m. CST.
