MANHATTAN, Kan. – Freshman Marcus Foster was named the Wayman Tisdale National Freshman of the Week for the second time this season on Tuesday after his season-high 34-point effort in the win over No. 15/18 Texas.

Foster was chosen for the weekly honor by’s Jeff Borzello in partnership with the U.S. Basketball Writers Association. This season marks the first time a weekly national freshman of the week will be selected and, each Tuesday through Feb. 25, a standout first-year player will be selected for the honor.

Foster is the fifth Big 12 freshman to earn the weekly national honor this season, including the fifth in the last six weeks.

Named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for the second time on Monday, Foster scored a season-high 34 points in the 74-57 win over the Longhorns, as he connected on 13-of-16 field goals, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. The 13 field goals and the five 3-pointers were both season-highs. He also added three rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes. His 34 points were the most by a Wildcat since Jacob Pullen scored 38 points against Wisconsin in the NCAA Tournament on March 19, 2011 and the most by a true freshman since Beasley posted 39 points against Kansas on March 1, 2008.

Foster is the fifth Wildcat true freshman to record a 30-point game, joining Mike Evans, Curtis Redding, Norris Coleman and Beasley.

A 6-foot-2, 200-pound rookie, Foster collected his fourth 20-point game in five games on Monday night in helping the Wildcats to an 85-82 overtime win over No. 7/7 Kansas before a sold-out Bramlage Coliseum. He scored a game-high 20 points on 5-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range, to go with a 6-of-7 effort from the free throw line, with two rebounds and one steal in 36 minutes of action. His effort against Kansas did not count towards this week’s award.

A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, Foster is one of only two players to start every game this season, as he paces the team in a number of categories, including scoring (15.0 ppg.), double-digit scoring games (19), field goals (123) and 3-point field goals (54), while he is among the Top 5 in rebounding, assists, blocks, steals and minutes.

Foster already holds the K-State freshman record for 3-point field goals (54), while he is currently second in field goal percentage, sixth in points (359) and seventh in field goals (123) among Wildcat rookies in school history.

Kansas State (17-7, 7-4 Big 12) hits the road this weekend, as the Wildcats travel to Waco, Texas to take on Baylor (14-9, 2-8 Big 12) on Saturday at 6 p.m. on ESPNU.
