K-State to Play in 2015 CBE Hall of Fame Classic

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State has been selected to participate in the 2015 CBE Hall of Fame Classic, which is set for Monday-Tuesday, November 23 and 24, 2015 at Kansas City’s Sprint Center.

The field for the championship round games also includes five-time NCAA champion North Carolina of the Atlantic Coast Conference, former Big 12 foe and current SEC member Missouri and the Big Ten’s Northwestern.

The semifinals will be held on Monday, Nov. 23 with the finals taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 24 beginning with the consolation game, followed by the championship. All four games will be broadcast on the family of ESPN networks.

“We are extremely excited about the opportunity to play in the CBE Hall of Fame Classic,” said head coach Bruce Weber. “The challenge of playing programs like Missouri, North Carolina and Northwestern in a world-class venue like the Sprint Center will provide our team a great warm-up for the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship later in the year. Obviously, we have a tremendous fan base in Kansas City and this will be another occasion for them to pack the building with purple.”

K-State has a long history with Missouri, playing 235 times between 1907 and 2012, including on 23 occasions in Kansas City. The Wildcats have also played North Carolina five times with the last meeting coming in 1989, while they have met Northwestern three times with the last match-up coming in 2002.

Previous winners of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic include two-time champions Creighton (2002, 2004), Missouri (2001, 2011) and Texas (2005, 2009) as well as UCLA (2007), Syracuse (2008), Kansas (2012) and Wichita State (2013). Maryland won the latest title with a 72-63 victory over Iowa State on Nov. 25, 2014.

This will mark the Wildcats’ second trip to the CBE Classic and first since going 1-1 in the 2010 event. K-State knocked off No. 18 Gonzaga, 81-64, in the semifinals on Nov. 22 before falling to No. 1 Duke, 82-68, in the championship on Nov. 23.

K-State men’s basketball season ticket holders and Ahearn Fund members will have an opportunity to order tickets in K-State sections this summer during the season ticket renewal period, or may purchase tickets from the public on-sale allotment which go on sale Friday, March 10 at 10 am.

The complete bracket, including match-ups and television broadcast times for the 2015 CBE Hall of Fame Classic, will be announced at a later date. As part of its participation in the tournament, K-State will play two home games at Bramlage Coliseum against opponents to be determined.

The event is named after the College Basketball Experience, the award-winning college basketball fan facility adjacent to the Sprint Center, which also houses the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. The tournament, in partnership with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), was initially established in 2001 as the Guardians Classic.
