Beasley Leads West Squad to McDonald's Victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Future Wildcat Michael Beasley scored 23 points and was named the Most Valuable Player as he led the West to a 114-112 victory in the McDonald's All-American Game at Freedom Hall on Wednesday night.

The East had a chance to win the game but a 3-point attempt hit the back of the rim in the final seconds, allowing Beasley’s West squad to escape with the win.

“Winning the MVP is great, but I'm happier that we got the win,'' Beasley told The Associated Press afterward. “We wanted to show that we weren't just going to go out there and do a bunch of dunks and shoot some 3s. We wanted to win. That's what was important to us.''

The West led the entire second half, but had to survive a handful of surges by the East. The East drew within one possession several times in the final minutes, but couldn't quite catch up.

The East trailed by two when it got a steal with 10 seconds left. The ensuing 3-pointer was off the mark, however, and a put-back attempt for the tie was long at the buzzer.
