Martin Signs Contract with NBA's Wizards

NEW YORK - The Washington Wizards have signed guard/forward Cartier Martin of the Iowa Energy, it was announced today. Martin's GATORADE Call-Up is the NBA Development League record 30th of the 2009-10 season, and the second for him this year. He joins 75 other NBA players with NBA D-League experience.

Martin has appeared in 31 games, 27 starts, for the Energy this season, averaging 17.3 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 29.6 minutes. He has scored in double figures 25 times, and notched one double-double. He recorded a season-high 37 points in a 127-120 road loss to the Erie BayHawks on March 6.

Martin returns to the NBA following a GATORADE Call-Up to the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 10. In 10 games, two starts, with the Warriors in January, Martin averaged 9.0 points and 4.7 rebounds in 27.6 minutes. During his stint with Golden State, Martin scored in double figures three times, including an NBA career-high 20 points in a 99-96 road loss to the Sacramento Kings. In 43 career NBA games, including 33 with the Charlotte Bobcats during the 2008-09 season, Martin has averaged 4.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 12.6 minutes.

A four-year contributor and three-year starter at Kansas State, Martin averaged 17.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists during his senior season when he was named Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year and earned a spot on the NABC All-NCAA District 12 Second Team.

Martin, one of three Wildcats currently playing in the NBA, is expected to join the Wizards today on the road and be available tonight when the team faces the Houston Rockets at the Toyota Center in Texas.
