K-State To Play at WSU in Hardwood Series

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State will play at Washington State on Friday, Dec. 3, as the Big 12 and Pac-10 Conferences announced the dates and match-ups for the fourth annual Hardwood Series on Wednesday.

The series, which began during the 2007-08 season, matches schools from both conferences in men's basketball competition.  This year's match-ups mirror the ones that took place last season with the road team from a year ago hosting this season.  Two Pac-10 schools - Washington and USC - will play twice with the Huskies facing Texas Tech and Texas A&M and the Trojans facing Nebraska and Texas.  The Big 12 held a 9-3 advantage in Hardwood Series contests last season and leads the three-year series, 20-16.  In 2009, the 12 contests drew more than 110,000 fans. In the three years of the event, more than 355,000 fans have come through the turnstiles.

The Wildcats and Cougars met in the first game of the home-and-home series on Dec. 5, 2009 with Denis Clemente and Jacob Pullen scoring 21 points each in an 86-69 win at Bramlage Coliseum.   The win gave K-State a 3-2 edge in the all-time series, which dates back to 1941.  The two schools will meet in Pullman for the third time in their respective histories with WSU winning both match-ups, 47-22 on Dec. 20, 1941 and 58-57 on Dec. 3, 2005.

The Cougars will return all five starters, including first team All-Pac-10 selection Klay Thompson, from a squad that posted a 16-15 overall record, including a 6-12 mark in league play, under second-year head coach Ken Bone.

K-State is 1-2 all-time in the Hardwood Series, losing the first set of home-and-home series with Oregon in 2007-08 and 2008-09.  The Wildcats are 39-23 all-time versus teams from the Pac-10.

The majority of the games of the Hardwood Series are scheduled for Dec. 2-5, with three taking place outside the four-day series window.  Additional components of the series, including the start times and television broadcast information will be announced at a later date.
