Rohleder Earns Scholarship for 2015-16

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Men's basketball walk-on Brian Rohleder will receive an athletic scholarship for the 2015-16 season, head coach Bruce Weber announced recently.

"This is one of those days that you really enjoy as a coach," said head coach Bruce Weber. "To be able to reward someone like Brian, who has done at the right way both on the court and in the classroom, is very exciting. He has worked as hard as anyone we have had in our program."

An Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection as a junior, Rohleder has seen action in 42 games in his three-year career at K-State, including playing in 16 games with one start in 2014-15. After playing in eight games as a true freshman in 2011-12, he redshirted the 2012-13 season before returning to the court and playing in 18 games in 2013-14.

"This is a really humbling experience for me," said Rohleder. "It is what I have been working towards these last four years to be able to have a scholarship and finish off my career at K-State."

The mechanical engineering major from Wichita, Kansas and product of Bishop Carroll High School has appeared on every Fall and Spring Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll since his freshman season in 2011-12, including earning a perfect 4.0 GPA during the spring semester. A two-time President of the K-State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and current student-athlete representative on the President's Advisory Committee on Athletics, he has won or shared the team's Keith Amerson Academic Award each of the past four years.

Rohleder is the second member of his family to earn a scholarship from K-State, as his older brother, Kevin, played for the football team from 2007-10.

Rohleder is among seven returning lettermen, including four players with starting experience, in 2015-16 to go with the infusion of six newcomers, including PARADE All-American Dean Wade (St. John, Kansas/St. John) and NJCAA First Team All-American Carlbe Ervin II (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma/Connors State College). Senior guard Justin Edwards (6.3 ppg., 3.3 rpg.) is the team's top returner in both scoring and steals (37), while junior forward Wesley Iwundu (5.8 ppg., 3.5 rpg.) is the leading returner in rebounding (108), assists (61), blocks (20) and minutes (780).
