K-State to Appear on Big Monday

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State will host Texas for the second time in three years on ESPN’s Big Monday on Jan. 18, 2010, as the Big 12 office announced a portion of its league schedule on Thursday.

It will mark the Wildcats’ 11th appearance on Big Monday dating back to the 1992 season and the first since the Longhorns posted a 74-65 win at Bramlage Coliseum on Feb. 25, 2008.  The series with Texas is one of the most contested in the Big 12 with K-State holding a 10-8 edge all-time.  The last six meetings have been decided by less than four points, including a pair of overtime games.

Last season, the squads split their two meetings with K-State knocking off then No. 11 Texas, 85-81, in overtime at the Erwin Center in Austin, Texas on Jan. 31 before the Longhorns took a 61-58 decision in the quarterfinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship on March 12.  The win ended Texas’ 19-game homecourt winning streak and 14-game streak in Big 12 play.  It was also the highest ranked team toppled on the road since the Wildcats upset No. 1 Kansas, 68-64, on Jan. 17, 1994.  Senior Denis Clemente tied Michael Beasley's Big 12 single-game record with 44 points against the Longhorns.

The complete Big 12 portion of Kansas State’s schedule will be released at a later date.
