Spradling To Compete Internationally in August

Senior Will Spradling will spend seven days with the Global Sports Academy playing five games against teams in Belgium and Netherlands.

Will Spradling will join Thomas Gipson and Jevon Thomas on an international tour in August, as the senior guard will travel with the Global Sports Academy to Europe from August 8-16.

Spradling and the Global Sports Academy will spend seven days playing five games against various club teams in Belgium and the Netherlands. It was previously announced that Gipson and Thomas would compete with the Athletes in Action Tour to the cities of Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda, Lithuania from August 6-19.

Spradling’s tour will start in Brussels, Belgium (August 9-11), where he and Global Sports Academy will play its first two games, before a day trip for sightseeing in London on August 12. The trip will pick back up in the Netherlands, where the team will play games in Amsterdam (August 13), Ghent (August 14) and Antwerp (August 15).

Spradling will be joined on the trip by Denzel Brito (Loyola-Maryland), Brandon Burnett (Indiana State), JerShon Cobb (Northwestern), Kris Davis (SIU-Edwardsville), Hayden Humes (Illinois-Chicago), Sanjay Lumpkin (Northwestern), Te’Ron Johnson (Purdue), Ryan Sawvell (Evansville)and Patrick Stewart (SIU-Edwardsville). The team will be coached by Northwestern assistant coach Patrick Baldwin.

As a junior, Spradling saw action in 34 of 35 games for the Wildcats, averaging 7.4 points on 39.5 percent shooting with 2.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 27.4 minutes per game in 2012-13. He will be one of the team’s most experienced players in 2013-14, having seen action in 101 games with 72 starts in his K-State career. Already ninth on the career 3-point field goals (133) list, he is on track to join the Top 10 lists for both career assists and steals.

Gipson and Thomas will depart on August 6 for Macon, Ga., where they will train for three days at Mercer University before leaving for Lithuania on August 9. The Athletes in Action Tour will consist of six games with three in the capital of Vilnius on August 11, 12 and 13, and three more in Klaipeda on August 15, 16 and 17. The duo will be joined on the trip by Drew Barham (Gonzaga), David Chadwick (Valparaiso), Kadeem Coleby (Wichita State), Beau Gamble (Colorado), Brady Heslip (Baylor), Chris Jennkins (Colorado), Jordan Swing (UAB) and Jamil Wilson (Marquette). The team will be coached by Valparaiso assistant coach Roger Powell and Baylor assistant coach Sam Patterson. Powell played for head coach Bruce Weber at Illinois from 2001-05, helping the Fighting Illini to the national championship game as a senior.

As a sophomore, Gipson saw action in all 35 games for the Wildcats, averaging 7.9 points on 51.7 percent shooting with 5.0 rebounds in 18.7 minutes per game in 2012-13. He ranked second in rebounding and was fourth in scoring.

A 6-foot, 180-pound point guard, Thomas will be a freshman in 2013-14 after playing at St. John’s (Wis.) Northwest Military Academy in Delafield, Wis. He averaged 15 points and seven assists last season and was named the most outstanding player of the 2013 National Prep School Invitational in Providence, R.I.
