MANHATTAN, Kan. - Ten national television appearances, including Big Monday matchups with Kansas and Oklahoma State, highlight the Big 12 portion of Kansas State's men's basketball schedule released on Thursday by league officials.
The Wildcats, who are coming off their seventh consecutive 20-win season and 27th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012-13, will play home-and-home contests with all nine conference opponents for a third straight season. In all, the squad will play 12 games against teams that advanced to the postseason a year ago, including six in Bramlage Coliseum. In addition, five of the nine home league contests will also fall on a Saturday at Bramlage Coliseum, including the opener with expected Top 10 foe Oklahoma State set for January 4 at 11 a.m. on ESPNU.
"The Big 12 will once again be one of the toughest leagues in the country, night-in and night-out," said second-year head coach Bruce Weber. "Obviously with what is returning for Oklahoma State and the terrific recruiting class at Kansas, they are garnering a lot of attention, but this league is going to be as tough as there is from top to bottom. Like last year, there will some surprise teams, so we are going to have to prepare ourselves for a battle every night."
All 18 of K-State's conference contests will be available on one of the Big 12's family of television partners, including 10 on ESPN, ESPN2 and/or ESPNU. The league previously announced that the Wildcats' home game with Kansas (February 10, 8 p.m.) and road tilt with Oklahoma State (March 3, 8 p.m.) would be featured on ESPN's signature Big Monday broadcast. In addition, the first meeting of Dillons Sunflower Showdown with the Jayhawks on Saturday, January 11, will be broadcast nationally on ESPN at 1 p.m., from Allen Fieldhouse.
The home game with Oklahoma at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, will be the first of three games on ESPN2, which also includes road contests at Texas (Jan. 21, 6 p.m.) and Texas Tech (Feb. 25, 6 p.m.). The non-conference game with Gonzaga on Saturday, December 21 (2:30 p.m.) at Wichita's INTRUST Bank Arena will also air on ESPN2. After the opener with Oklahoma State on January 4, the squad will appear three more times on ESPNU, including home games with TCU (Feb. 19, 8 p.m.) and Iowa State (March 1, 6 p.m.) and a road contest at Baylor (Feb. 15, 6 p.m.).
The Wildcats will also have eight regular season games broadcast as a part of the Big 12 Television network, beginning with the road opener at TCU set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7. Other Big 12 Network games include home games with West Virginia (Jan. 18, 12:30 p.m.), Texas Tech (Jan. 28, 7 p.m.), Texas (Feb. 8, 12:30 p.m.) and Baylor (March 8, 12:30 p.m.) and road tilts at Iowa State (Jan. 25, 12:30 p.m.), West Virginia (Feb. 1, 12:30 p.m.) and Oklahoma (Feb. 22, 3 p.m.). Most Big 12 Network telecasts will be available nationwide via WatchESPN, ESPN3 and ESPN Full Court.
The Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship will be held Wednesday through Saturday, March 12-15, at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo.
Season tickets for the 18-game home season are currently on sale with a variety of packages available. The new Wildcat Victory Ticket Plan, which is available in limited quantities, includes all non-conference and three midweek conference games (excluding the Big Monday contest with Kansas) in general admission seating (sections 24-25) for only $169.
Kansas State enjoyed one of its best men's basketball seasons in 2012-13, posting a 27-8 overall record and 14-4 mark in league play en route to their first-ever Big 12 regular season championship and a fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. The 27 wins were the second-most in school history, while the 14 in league play tied the school record held by the 1958-59 team. The league championship was the 18th in school history and the first since the 1976-77 season.
Weber's squad returns eight lettermen, including four players with starting experience, in 2013-14. The group is headlined by All-Big 12 honorable mention selection Shane Southwell (8.4 ppg., 3.8 rpg.) and fellow senior Will Spradling (7.4 ppg., 2.4 apg.). The team will also have seven new players, including five freshmen, led by PARADE High School All-American Marcus Foster.
Fans can purchase season tickets in a variety of ways, including toll free at (800) 221.CATS (2287), online at www.kstatesports.com/tickets and in-person at the Athletics Ticket Office located in Bramlage Coliseum.
