Martin to appear at Catbacker event Sept. 23

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State head men’s basketball coach Frank Martin will be the featured speaker at the Kansas City Catbacker Basketball Banquet, which is set for Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the Lake Quivera Country Club.


Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for a social hour with cash bar and dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. 


Space is limited and reservations are required.  Cost for Kansas City Catbacker members is $35, while non-members can attend for $40.  A printable reservation form as well as online registration can be found at


The Kansas City Catbacker Club will also be honoring former Wildcat basketball player Hayden Abbott and his wife at the event.  A longtime dentist in the Kansas City area, Abbott was a three-year letterman for head coach Tex Winter from 1955-58.  He helped the Wildcats to a 54-21 record during his career, including a pair of Big Seven Championships and NCAA Tournament appearances.  As a senior, he helped guide the team to a 22-5 overall record and the Big Seven title en route to a Final Four appearance.  Abbott averaged 8.0 points and 4.6 rebounds during his playing career.
