Madness in Manhattan Returns Oct. 15; Set to Air on ESPNU

MANHATTAN, Kan. - K-State's "Madness in Manhattan" basketball event returns to Bramlage Coliseum under the national spotlight on Friday, Oct. 15, with the Wildcats being featured as part of ESPNU's Midnight Madness.


K-State will be one of six schools nationally to appear on ESPNU's season kickoff event from 8 p.m. to midnight CT.  The network will also broadcast from Connecticut, Duke, Gonzaga, Kentucky and Memphis.  ESPNU anchor Lowell Galindo will host this year's coverage, along with senior college basketball writer Andy Katz and former Maryland standout Adrian Branch.  The studio team will provide analysis between look-ins to each Midnight Madness event with each site having its own commentators to be named at a later date.


The event, which is sponsored by K-State Federal Credit Union, is free to the general public.  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the festivities kicking off at 7 p.m. on the Bramlage Coliseum floor.


Activities will include scrimmages by both the men's and women's teams, in addition to comments from head coaches Frank Martin and Deb Patterson and selected players.  The event will also feature special video introductions, a dunk contest, performances by the K-State pep band, Willie Wildcat and the Classy Cats, as well as a few surprises.


"This is a great opportunity to showcase our program to the nation," said Martin.  "We hope that our fans come out show the college basketball world how passionate they are for the Wildcats."

"We are excited to take part in such a fun and unique event that showcases what Kansas State basketball is about," said Patterson.  "We are looking forward to introducing our team to the K-State fan base and are looking forward to the upcoming season."

The teams kick off their respective seasons with exhibition games the first week of November.  The men's squad will host Newman on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m., while the women's team will host Fort Hays State two nights later on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
