Weber To Appear at Coaches vs. Cancer event Oct. 9

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Kansas State head coach Bruce Weber will join three other area coaches on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the American Cancer Society's fifth annual Coaches vs. Cancer Season Tipoff Reception at the College Basketball Experience in Kansas City.

Weber will be joined at the reception by Kansas head coach Bill Self, Missouri head coach Frank Haith, UMKC head coach Matt Brown as well as legendary Missouri head coach Norm Stewart, a cancer survivor and Coaches vs. Cancer Founding Father.  The quartet will discuss their respective team's outlook for the coming season and why they are helping the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer.  Fans will have the opportunity to chat with the coaches, enjoy the College Basketball Experience and bid on auction items to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

The event runs from 6-8 p.m., at the College Basketball Experience, which is located adjacent to the Sprint Center in Kansas City.  Cost is $50 per person, which includes a cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres, and can be purchased at the door or online at  Proceeds from the evening will directly fund the Society's mission of eliminating cancer by helping people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back. 

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.  Weber has been a long supporter of Coaches vs. Cancer, currently serving on the organization's Council, and was the recipient of the 2007 Coaches vs. Cancer Champion Award.
