MANHATTAN, Kan. – Sophomore guard Marcus Foster was selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 team released by the conference office on Thursday morning.

Foster, who was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection in 2013-14, was joined on the five-man preseason team by unanimous choices Perry Ellis (Kansas) and Juwan Staten (West Virginia), along with Buddy Hield (Oklahoma) and Georges Niang (Iowa State). Staten was voted as the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year and Bryce Dejean-Jones (Iowa State) was the Preseason Newcomer of the Year, while Cliff Alexander (Kansas) and Myles Turner (Texas) were selected as the Preseason Freshmen of the Year. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their own student-athletes.

Foster is the first Wildcat named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team since Rodney McGruder was selected to the squad in 2012. It marks just the fifth time that a Wildcat men’s basketball player has been named to the preseason team, joining Manny Dies in 1998-99, Jacob Pullen and Curtis Kelly in 2010-11 and McGruder in 2012.

The honor marks the fourth of the preseason for Foster, as he was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team by a number of publications, including Athlon, Blue Ribbon Yearbook and The Sporting News.

Foster is coming of a sensational freshman season, in which, he led K-State in eight categories, including scoring (15.5 ppg.), double-digit scoring games (27), 20-point games (eight), field goals (177), 3-point field goals (79) and free throw percentage (73.4). He joined Michael Beasley as the only true freshmen in school history to earn recognition to one of three All-Big 12 teams, while he was one of just three true freshmen to garner a spot in 2013-14.

Foster and the rest of the Wildcats open practice on Friday.

Season tickets for the 17-game home season continue to sell at a brisk pace with fewer than 800 cushion and chairback seats remaining. Single-game tickets for the eight-game exhibition and non-conference schedule as well as the Holiday and 5-game Mini-Plans will go on sale to the public on Monday, Oct. 6.

The Wildcats will play their lone exhibition game at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 9 against Washburn before officially tipping off the season against Southern Utah at 8 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 14 in the second game of a men’s and women’s doubleheader at Bramlage Coliseum.
