MANHATTAN, Kan. - K-State will officially kick off the start of basketball season on Friday night by hosting "Madness in Manhattan" at Bramlage Coliseum before a national spotlight on ESPNU's Midnight Madness.

The event, which is sponsored by K-State Federal Credit Union, is free to the general public.  Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., with the festivities kicking off at 7 p.m. on the Bramlage Coliseum floor.

K-State will be one of seven schools nationally to appear on ESPNU's Midnight Madness from 8 p.m. to midnight CT, joining Connecticut, Duke, Gonzaga, Kentucky, Memphis and St. John's.  The network will tape various segments during the event to be re-broadcast during the four-hour time slot with hosts Mitch Holthus and Fran Fraschilla broadcasting from Bramlage Coliseum.

There are a number of activities planned for the event, including scrimmages by both the men's and women's teams and a men's skills competition between the guards and forwards.  The event will also feature several special video presentations and performances by the K-State pep band, Willie Wildcat and the Classy Cats.  In addition, there will be comments from coaches Frank Martin and Deb Patterson and seniors Jacob Pullen and Shalin Spani.
