Basketball Teams to Host "Miles for Myles"

MANHATTAN, Kan. - On Saturday, Nov. 7, the Kansas State men's and women's basketball teams will host the "Miles for Myles" run/walk on the R.V. Christian Track at K-State. This event will take place three hours before the kickoff of the K-State vs. Kansas football game that day and is a three-mile event open to all fans.

The "Miles for Myles" initiative was developed by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as a remembrance for the late president of the NCAA, Myles Brand, who lost his valiant fight with cancer in September.

"Over the years, basketball coaches and the NABC have worked hand in hand in raising money to fight cancer," stated K-State head men's basketball coach Frank Martin. "Miles for Myles is a great opportunity for K-State to unite to help fight the disease that has taken so many people, including Myles Brand, from us."

Each person participating in the "Miles for Myles" event is asked to donate a minimum of $3, which will go directly to three charitable efforts to fight cancer: the Myles Brand Chair in Cancer Research at the Indiana University School of Medicine, the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and Coaches vs. Cancer.

"The partnership between NCAA men's and women's Basketball is another excellent means of uniting people in the battle against cancer," said K-State head women's basketball coach Deb Patterson about the partnership. "We are confident that with the strong financial support of people across America, great strides can be taken in preventing, treating and finding a cure for this disease."

Fans participating in the "Miles for Myles" event are asked to enter the R.V. Christian Track Complex on the west side, between the track and the Brandeberry Indoor Complex.
