MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State head coach Frank Martin announced Thursday the addition of Devon Peterson (Brooklyn, N.Y./Broward [Fla.] College) to the men’s basketball team as a walk-on.

A 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard from Brooklyn, N.Y., Peterson will be listed as a junior and will have two years of eligibility remaining after starting his career at Broward (Fla.) College in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

“We are excited about the addition of Devon to our basketball team,” said head coach Frank Martin.  “We know that it will take him some time to get acclimated to college basketball again, but we think he will add tremendous athleticism and experience to our team.”

A highly-touted player out of famed Lincoln High School, Peterson recently played for Broward College during the 2007-08 season, where he led the Seahawks to a 23-8 overall record, a Southern Conference Tournament title and No. 7 final ranking in the Florida Community College Athletic Association (FCCAA).  He averaged 16 points as a freshman en route to earning first team all-conference honors for head coach Bob Starkman.

Peterson helped Lincoln to three New York City League Championships (2005, 2006, 2007) as well as a New York State Championship as a senior in 2007.  He was named the most valuable player of the State Tournament and was a first team all-city selection and a member of the New York State Sportswriters Association All-State team.

In other related news, freshman walk-on Jarrod Kruger has left the men’s basketball team.

Kansas State will open its highly-anticipated 2010-11 season on Tuesday, Nov. 2 when the Wildcats host Newman at 7 p.m. in the first of two exhibition games at Bramlage Coliseum.  The squad opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 12 when they host James Madison at 8 p.m. before a national television audience on ESPNU.
