Postgame Quotes - 2015 Spring Game

2015 K-State Spring Game

Kansas State Head Coach Quotes

Head Coach Bill Snyder
On what displeased him the most...
"A little bit of everything. We turned the ball over, got penalized, did not run it very well and obviously with the interceptions we did not throw the ball very well. Even with that we gave up some plays that made me concerned with our tackling. I was pleased with Justin Silmon's play today and it is going to pay off for him. The young guy did a nice job after he got his feet on the ground. I thought with the kicking game we saw (Dominique) Heath do some good things in the kicking game, so he was a positive thing today."

On Alex Delton...
"The guys that I mentioned I thought played well. I talked about Justin Silmon running hard and that was what I was looking for and they did. It is a shame that it just came from young guys, but they did a nice job and will be rewarded. I thought like you indicated Alex (Delton) did well. He did not get off to a great start his first time on the field, but after he got the opportunity to be out there his first time in front of a crowd. He finished the rest of the game three quarters of it pretty well. I think it was significant I wanted to see him with the ones, so obviously they did well."

On seeing playmakers on defense...
"I think we played sound on defense. I think we gave up one deep throw with our twos that would have been successful, but the offense mishandled it. I just thought they were sound. When I go and look back at the film I will probably see some different things. I thought we were particularly bad against the passing game, because we let a few passes get away from us and failed to contain on a few of the bootleg passes. Overall through the course of the day the number ones on defense did well."

On keeping punts live...
"We just needed to work on our special teams. As you could see we had some depth issues. Some of the things that happened today were just a matter of us not having the people we needed with us to participate in the ball game. It was just a logistical nightmare to try to do it that way, but I thought  Sean (Snyder) did a nice job in having it organized and getting guys out there after the first couple of goes and we managed to get it done. We made all facets of our kicking game with the exceptions of extra points and field goals. We did it exactly the way we practiced it with exception that we allowed them to be tackled.  I thought (Dominique) Heath did a very nice job and beat some people. I think he is very, very viable. Now we just need to get some people to help him and get some blockers in front of him."

On playing in Sporting Park...

"We have enjoyed being up here and playing. The people here have been quite gracious. The people that manage this structure really do a nice job."

Kansas State Player Quotes

Quarterback Jesse Ertz
On getting the call to be the Purple quarterback...
"My goal going in was to just score points and not really worry about if I was scoring certain touchdowns. Overall I thought if we moved the ball pretty well but there are obviously some plays, especially that first ball that I threw, that I would like to have back.  You just have to put it behind you and keep moving forward."

On what sets him apart from the other quarterbacks...
"I think limiting turnovers and always trying to make progress on each play and do not take losses. I think this is all stuff that I have done better this spring than I had done last year and so that is something I will continue to work on."

On his first pass being an interception...

"That definitely was not the plan, but at the same time I could not do anything about it after that. I just put it behind me and tried to make some big plays and tried to forget about it."

Quarterback Joe Hubener
On the offense throughout the game...
"I was not super thrilled with the offense. I do not think I performed up to my potential and that is the way it goes sometimes. It is the spring game; it is not the end of the world. We definitely have a lot of things to work on still."

On the performance of the quarterbacks overall...
"I think both of the other quarterbacks would tell you the same thing. I think we struggled throwing the ball and the run game worked out alright. I think there is a lot of room to improve."

On the pressure of the Sporting Park environment...
"You try not to let the pressure get to you. In the back of your mind you know that there is 19,000 fans here and you know that they are sitting there watching you. That definitely adds some pressure."

Quarterback Alex Delton
On building confidence with Purple team...
"It gave me huge confidence, especially when you have guys like our line, specifically on the Purple team. Those guys get the job done and they make it easy for us quarterbacks to make plays. Being able to play them definitely boosts your confidence. It makes you feel ready to play more."

On being a key part of the offense...
"I am going into this upcoming season and spring being the best player and teammate that I can be. Obviously, coach (Bill Snyder) has said some nice things about me, but he would say the same things about any other quarterback that is in the position that I am. At this point, I am just working everyday to be the best player and teammate that I can be."

Fullback Winston Dimel
On getting first touchdown...
"It felt good. As a kid growing up in Manhattan this is something that I have always dreamed of. For it to happen is a dream come true."

On seeing playing time...
"I was a little nervous before the game, obviously. I just knew that I had to do my fundamentals right and just trust my teammates -- that is what I did."

Linebacker Elijah Lee
On his play...
"It was nice to play back in the box and not just rush off the edge. You get more involved in the game."

On importance of spring game...
"Getting a feel for it and seeing how the real groove is instead of just rushing off the edge. Getting a real feel of playing in the box was a big opportunity for me."

On playing a big part on the defense...
"That is huge and that is something that I need to take on, but at the same time I cannot let it go over my head or get too big headed about it. I have to stay confident and keep pushing because the sky is the limit and I am not there yet."

Wide Receiver Kyle Klein
On slow start...
"I would say it took us a little while to get in a rhythm today. In the first half, especially with the one's, it was not one glaring thing that went wrong. We were off on the timing and a lot of the little things caused us to get a slow start."

On correcting mistakes...
"Everything that we messed up today is very correctable. It is just a matter of having the mindset and the discipline to go out, do what you need to do, and then correct the mistakes so you do not make the same ones again."

On the quarterbacks...
"I feel like all of them played pretty well. They all have kind of their own niche and unique talents and I feel like they showcased those fairly well today. We had a couple of hiccups and there were a couple of plays that did not really go our way, but at the same time that is going back to those timing errors that are very fixable for us."
