Head Coach Bill Snyder

On the way the Purple team finished...
"Well it is better than the alternative, quite obviously. That is exactly the same thing that happened a year ago in the scrimmage and then we turned around in the last ballgame of the year and did not finish it. So where is the carry over value? That is what we need to have, from one day to the next. But yes, the bottom line is I was pleased with the way they came back."

On Collin Klein taking the lead in the quarterback battle...
"The way I view it is that Collin (Klein) played well with the exception of the interception today. I thought Sam (Lamur) played awfully well with the exception of a few deep ball mistakes that he made, and Justin (Tuggle) played well with the exception of the interception. So I still do not see a great deal of separation, I was just pleased that they all took steps forward. But they did that a week ago Saturday and as a soon as I told you that they did neat things, they turned around and tried to find guys in the other colored jersey's to throw it to, and were successful."

On Sheldon Smith's play...
"He has been pretty consistent in and out, he has had his mistakes, but he has played well. It was not just a one-time thing."

On Curry Sexton's play...
"Curry (Sexton) is playing quite well, he is a good playmaker. That is what I like about Curry, he just comes up, he is not the fastest guy in the world but you get the ball close to him he is going to lay out and make catches. He is not afraid to do exactly that sometimes. You hear about people talking about receivers that are not afraid to catch a ball going over the middle because their common terminology and he fits the bill for that."

On today's running game...
"Well we really did not run the ball that much at all and the idea was to try and go in and throw it around a little bit and look at some of the receivers that we have and put our quarterbacks in a position with the crowd noise, etc. We put them in a game day position to see how they respond in regards to decision making when the pressure was on. It was important to them and important to me anyways. So we just did not put emphasis on the running game."

Player Quotes

Quarterback Collin Klien

On changing his run first throw second mentality...
"It's something I've been working on this whole off season I really credit our receivers again. I had a lot of fun out there with my family. I think the repetitions have helped strengthen my mechanics. I've made progress and I am excited."

On establishing himself as the quarterback...
"This is just the first step. I don't want to think about that. I still have a lot of things I can get better at and improve at. We'll just see what happens."

Quarterback Sammuel Lamur

On his performance in today's scrimmage...
"From the past spring and last season, I think I've improved. One positive was no turnovers, so that's a good thing.  I'm looking forward to getting better and looking forward to this upcoming season.

On his relationship with the other quarterbacks...
"One thing, you always want to feel comfortable with this position, and with these guys, I really do feel comfortable."

Quarterback Justin Tuggle

On playing in today's scrimmage...
"It feels really good to get out there on the field in front of the fans. We have had a good spring. I have gotten the first 15 practices under my belt and it felt good to get out there and compete with the guys. We have been working really hard this spring to run the offense and to get everything down. I am glad the fans got to see a little bit of what I can do."

On his comfort level in today's scrimmage...
"There was no nervousness. I felt comfortable out there. I just went out there and tried to make some plays and tried to take control of the situation and do what I can do."

Wide Receiver Tramaine Thompson

On the performance of quarterback Collin Klein...
"Collin (Klein) had a great day. He was putting the ball where it was supposed to go and was calling his own plays."

On playing in today's scrimmage...
"It was a relief to get out here. We have gone through a lot of hard practices and a lot of hard situations, so it just felt really good to get out there and release all of that in a game-like scenario and have some fun at the same time."

Wide Receiver Chris Harper

On the progress of quarterback Collin Klein...
"He's made a lot of progress. He's confident, making confident throws and throwing the ball around. He's been doing what he's been doing all spring, he's been great. Collin has a chance to be the starter, and he's taking the bull by the horns."

On Coach Snyder's mood this spring...
"You know, he's the same guy. I think he thinks we're capable of being pretty good, but he doesn't want us to get complacent because we've got to get a lot better. I just think Coach is also trying to get more balance with the offense, and we're gradually getting better at that."

Offensive Lineman Clyde Aufner

On pass protection...
"I feel we did a really good job across the lines as far as finding the fronts and making the blocks when it counts. It can be improved but overall we did alright."

On the biggest hole in losing several starters...
"I feel like losing the experience, that's something you can't coach. But we've got some younger guys coming up that are getting into some playing roles. They have talent so it's just about getting them the technique right and getting them ready."

Sophomore Linebacker Tre Walker

On the defensive progress made that will carry into this summer...
"Anything I can do with a defensive attitude, saying `You are not going to run on us; you are not going to pass on us,' is important for our defense. I think our attitudes and mindsets have changed, and when we did that, a lot of good things happened and that is what we can take into the season."

On having Arthur Brown as a defensive teammate...
"Arthur is aggressive. I look up to Arthur tremendously because he teaches me everything every day. A lot of people come in worrying about the process and how the attitudes are, but Arthur did not do that. He was humble and said, `What can I do to work; what can I do to put my hands in the pot?' A person like that I can respect because I can learn everything from him."

Senior Defensive Back David Garrett

On taking steps forward during the spring...
"I think we took positive steps on offense and defense, White team and Purple team. I feel like everybody got a little bit better today."

On Collin Klein's improvement during the spring...
"His actions, throws and arm power, as well as his decisions, knowing when to throw and knowing when to run have improved. He is just a year older and is getting more experience for the game. I see a lot of positive things going his direction."

Junior Linebacker Arthur Brown

On being in control on defense...
"I feel like the linebacking core, as a unit, was together. We really communicated together, which made it easier."

On feeling at home...
"This is my home. I feel good. I feel comfortable here. I had the time to really readjust myself and re-gather myself. So, yeah, I feel great."

Senior Defensive Back/Linebacker Emmanuel Lamur

On how he feels the linebacking core is better than a year ago with him on it...
"The competition level was very high. You have to come in every day and compete, and that is what we want in the linebacking core because that is part of playing defense. Nothing is guaranteed right now so you just have to keep working hard, and we just need depth."

On his health and how it held him back last year...
"It kind of held me back last year. I missed about two or three games dealing with health issues. I came back and rebounded. I studied real hard. I just never gave up and kept going hard."

Junior Defensive End Meshak Williams

On how he felt about the defense...
"I feel pretty good about it. A lot of our linebackers made big plays and our D-line made a lot of plays. We had one pick on the Purple team and one pick on the White team. I feel good about this."

On some improvements he thinks the defense needs to make for the upcoming season...
"I think we still need to work on our D-line. We need to get more penetration, and all 11 players need to get to the ball. And just having fun out there and playing hard."

On his feeling towards the connection the defense has...
"I feel the defense is pretty tight because we always hang around each other on and off the field, and we talk about what we are going to do on the field. Even last night we were talking about what we were going to do today with the offense. We are all tight and I think that is going to be a big part of this program, knowing we have that kind of brotherhood."
