Archer to Play in East-West Shrine Game

MANHATTAN, Kan. Kansas State senior linebacker Brandon Archer has been selected to play in the 2007 Dell East-West Shrine Game, officials with the annual all-star game announced.

Archer, who collected a career-high 106 tackles during 2006 and finished the year as the Wildcats’ leading tackler for the third straight season, will compete for the West squad.

The 82nd East-West Shrine Game will be played on Jan. 21 at Reliant Stadium in Houston. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN2 and is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. (CST).

One of 13 Big 12 players slated to compete in the game, Archer earned 2006 first team All-Big 12 accolades from The Associated Press, Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News following the regular season. The senior also picked up second team all-league honors from the Big 12 coaches, Kansas City Star, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Waco Tribune-Herald.

Archer closed out his K-State career with a game-high nine total tackles in the Wildcats’ Texas Bowl loss to Rutgers on Dec. 28 at Reliant Stadium. On track to graduate this May, Archer totaled 268 tackles as a Wildcat, which ranks 17th in school history.

Legendary NFL coaches Don Shula and Dan Reeves will serve as the head coaches for the game and will be aided by NFL assistant coaches.

The East-West Shrine Game has raised more than $14 million since 1925 to help support the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
