Banks Inks Free Agent Deal with Washington

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Former Kansas State wide receiver and record-breaking kick returner Brandon Banks has signed a free-agent contract with the Washington Redskins, the organization has announced.

One of the top kick returners in Big 12 and NCAA history, Banks set a Big 12 record and tied the NCAA record with two kick-return touchdowns in one game this past season while also tallying a nation-leading and Big 12-record four on the year. His five career kick return scores were also a new Big 12 record and two shy of the NCAA record.

The Garner, N.C., native also led the Big 12 and was ninth nationally with 174.8 all-purpose yards per game, ranks third in school history with 3,828 career all-purpose yards and his career average of 159.5 all-purpose yardage per game ranks second in school history and fifth in Big 12 history.

A First Team All-Big 12 selection, Banks also led the team in receptions (56) and receiving yards (705) this past season while he also ranks seventh in K-State history with 123 career receptions and ninth in career receiving yards with 1,754.

He joins tight end Jeron Mastrud, defensive end Jeffrey Fitzgerald and defensive back Joshua Moore as Wildcats who have currently joined NFL franchises.

Moore was selected in the fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by Chicago to run K-State's streak of having at least one player drafted to 17 consecutive years, a figure that ranks third-best among Big 12 schools. Mastrud signed a free-agent contract with Tampa Bay last month and Fitzgerald signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday.

Kansas State opens its 2010 season on September 4 against UCLA in a game that will be televised by ABC beginning at 2:30 p.m. All North End Zone season tickets for the 2010 season have been sold out, but great seats in other areas of the stadium remain on sale and can be purchased online at k-statesports.com or by calling 1-800-221-CATS.
