Sunflower Shutdown Next Up on Countdown

MANHATTAN, Kan. K-State’s largest margin of victory in a road contest has been selected as the ninth-best road win in the last 25 years by the k-statesports.com staff in Powercat Passport’s countdown of the program’s top wins away from home.

The 100th edition of the Sunflower Showdown was all Wildcats, as 14th-ranked Kansas State built a 43-point lead at halftime and coasted to a 64-0 victory over Kansas in front of 43,000 at Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.

Ell Roberson accounted for four touchdowns, three rushing and one passing, while Darren Sproles tallied his fifth straight game over 100 yards with 110 and two touchdowns.

K-State’s afternoon of points started immediately, as Henry Bryant dropped KU running back Clark Green in the end zone for a safety on the Jayhawks’ first play from scrimmage. K-State continued to reel off points in the opening quarter, scoring on their first four possessions for a 30-0 first quarter lead.

The weekly countdown of k-statesports.com’s top-10 road games will continue each week through August 31, when the No. 1 road game of the past 25 seasons as selected by the staff at k-statesports.com is announced. The countdown is leading up to the Wildcats’ season opener at Auburn on Sept. 1.

Each week’s game will be announced on Thursday afternoon on k-statesports.com, with the webcast of the game available the next day.
